On a blistering cold afternoon Thursday in East Brewton, the W.S. Neal varsity Eagles baseball team rallied to defeat Pensacola Christian Academy 10-5 for their third straight win of the season. The five-run win moved WSN to 3-3 overall this season.
Trailing PCA 3-0 after one inning, 3-2 after two innings and 4-2 after three innings, WSN outscored the Warriors 8-1 over the final four innings to get the win. WSN used six runs in the fifth inning to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 9-4 lead.
WSN made six errors in the win, with three coming in the first inning.
At the plate for the Eagles of East Brewton, Dalton Shell led with three singles and three RBIs while Miles Powell had a double. Dakota Graves, Colton Morris, Jared Cooper and Sam Frazier all had singles. Jacobey Hawthorne had one RBI in the win.
On the mound, Lane Chavers, Hawthorne and Morris pitched with Hawthorne getting the win.
Chavers went the first three innings and allowed four hits, four unearned runs, walked three, struck out three and hit one.
Trailing 4-2, Hawthorne entered in the fourth inning and went three innings allowing one hit, no runs, walked one, hit one and struck out three.
Morris went the final inning and allowed two hits, one earned run, walked and struck out one.

WSN JV 18, PCA 0
While the varsity team hosted PCA, the JV team traveled to Pensacola to face PCA for their first game of the season.
The JV Eagles picked up an 18-0 win in four innings behind the pitching of Jeremy Gafford.
“We played pretty well despite the fact that it was our first game and the
weather was brutal,” JV head coach Daniel Hodge said. “We combined for 22 hits and Jeremy Gafford threw a 4-inning no-hitter. They did not have lights and we elected to call the game after the fourth inning.”
In the four-inning game, WSN scored three runs in the first innings, nine in the second, two in the third and four more in the fourth.
Gafford went four innings on the mound and allowed no runs, no hits, walked five and struck out four.
Kristian Taylor had three hits and Gafford had two hits with a double. Jordan Madden had three hits and three RBIs while Weston Riddle had one hit and one RBI.
Ty Purvis finished with two hits and one RBI while Marcus Summons had two hits and two RBIs.
Bryce Booker added four hits and two RBIs, Hayden Winchester had three hits, PJ Lovelace had one hit and Caleb Kaylor had one hit and one RBI.
