Work will also soon begin on a nearly $2 million renovation project at the T.R. Miller High School football stadium and baseball field.
Monday, the city school board approved a $1.96 million contract with Amity Construction Company of Montgomery. Bids were opened Thursday. Some $1.715 million in capital funds is budgeted for the project, Superintendent Lynn Smith said.
“We’re not paying for it using general fund money,” he said.
The board also approved some slight changes in the project that helped to decrease the price of the project by more than $246,000.
“We have a list of 12-13 things that were priced to not do,” Smith said. “These were taken from the base bid price of the restroom and concession stand combination on the north side, the ticket booth, fencing similar to what is on the south side of the stadium, and redid price on the brick and mortar.”
Smith said with the change order of a deduction that will bring them within budget to move forward with the project.
Concrete for the project has been ordered and should arrive in April, he said.
“When it gets here, the contractor will have to meet with the crane and the press box will already be down,” he said. “The crane will then lift it and put it into place in the stadium bleachers.”
