Construction is on schedule at both T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal high schools.
Both properties are undergoing extensive renovations. At Miller, the more than $9 million project includes new administration offices, classrooms and computer lab.
For months, crews have been working to complete the project, and soon, the first of many moves will take place, Superintendent Lynn Smith said.
“We will move into the new school office around the middle of April,” he said. “After the office has been relocated, the old office area and the old first hall will be removed.  The remaining construction will be parking, driveway, main entrance to the school, and lunchroom courtyard.
“I am hopeful that everything will be completed by July 1,” he said.
At WSN, Superintendent John Knott said work is progressing “nicely” on the $16 million project.
“We’re building new from the ground up,” he said. “Everyone is excited to see things beginning to take shape.”
On Monday, crews were working throughout the property.
“Within the next few weeks, the old ag building will be gone,” Knott said. “The field house is already gone, and by the time school starts back, hopefully, it will be in the new building.”
Knott said the original high school was constructed in 1953. Three of the current buildings – the auditorium, the cafeteria and weight room – will remain standing and will also undergo renovations.
“The cafeteria and weight room will be converted to a new field house and the 1997 addition will be transformed into a girls’ athletic facility complete with a weight room, changing room and meeting room,” he said. “I think people will be amazed once they see the scope of the project.
“All in all, it’s a great time at W.S. Neal High School,” he said. “This will be a state-of-the-art facility, with wireless internet throughout, and the latest in technology.”
Work is on schedule to meet the June deadline, Knott said.
