Facing off against No. 2-ranked St. Paul’s Tuesday night in Mobile, the W.S. Neal Eagles were doubled up by the Saints 10-5. The loss dropped WSN to 6-5 overall this season.
WSN was held to only two hits in the loss as Derrick Barton went 2-for-3 with a double and one two RBIs. Dalton Shell had the other RBI for WSN.
Lane Chavers and Colton Morris pitched in the loss with Chavers being the pitcher of record.
Chavers went two innings and allowed five hits, seven earned runs, walked one, struck out one and hit two batters.
Morris went the final four innings and allowed three hits, three runs, one earned, walked one, struck out two and hit two batters.
WSN trailed St. Paul’s 4-0 after one inning and 7-0 after two innings before cutting the lead to 7-3 in the third inning and 7-4 after the top of the fourth. St. Paul’s grabbed an 8-4 after four innings, but WSN cut the lead to 8-5 in the top of the fifth.
Trailing by three runs, WSN saw the Saints add two in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-5 lead. Neither team scored the remainder of the game as WSN took the loss by five runs.
The JV Eagles lost 10-2 to the Saints to fall to 3-3 this season.
WSN was held to one run each in the second and fifth innings while St. Paul’s scored three in the first, one in the second, five in the third inning and one in the fourth to get the win by eight.
Jeremy Gafford and Kristian Taylor pitched in the loss with Gafford being the pitcher of record. Gafford and Taylor combined to go four innings and allowed 11 hits, nine runs, six earned, walked four, struck out six and hit one batter.
At the plate, Aaron Bosarge, Bryce Booker, Jordan Madden, Marcus Simmons and Sam Frazier all had one hit each with Bosarge having one RBI.
