JDCC softball sweeps Bishop

The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks softball team kept their recent hot streak going Thursday at home as they swept a conference doubleheader with Bishop State.
The Lady Warhawks claimed a 3-2 win in eight innings in game one and rallied in game two for a 7-6 win. The wins moved JDCC to 16-14 overall and to 3-1 in conference play. The two wins also made for 10 wins for the Lady Warhawks in their last 11 games.

Game one: JDCC 3, BSCC 2
Leading Bishop 2-1 after six innings, the Lady Warhawks saw BSCC tie things up in the seventh to force extra innings, but the Lady Warhawks plated one in the bottom of the eighth inning to get a 3-2 win.
JDCC trails BSCC 1-0 after two innings, but took a 2-1 lead in the fourth before BSCC tied things up in the top of the seventh inning.
At the plate for JDCC offensively, Katlin Bryars led with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Bryars had a double in the win. Alicia Richardson went 2-for-4 while Audrey Hamric, Hannah Brake, Jordan Swindle and Chelsey Ramer all had one hit each.
Hamric, Shaquanna Jones and Savannah Allen all had one RBI each for the Lady Warhawks in the win.
Kaitlin Hadaway earned the pitching win as she went all eight innings and allowed seven hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out five.

Game two: JDCC 7, BSCC 6
Down 6-5 in the seventh inning, JDCC scored two runs to rally to defeat the Lady Wildcats of BSCC by a score of 7-6 to earn the sweep.
JDCC led Bishop 4-0 after two innings and 4-1 after four innings before BSCC struck for four in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. JDCC tied things up in the bottom half of the inning and the score stayed tied at 5-all into the seventh.
In the seventh, BSCC plated one run in the top of the inning to grab a 6-5 lead over the Lady Warhawks. From there, JDCC scored two in the bottom half of the inning to get the win by one.
At the plate for the Lady Warhawks, Hamric, Brake and Moriah Trujillo all had one hit each while Richardson and Jones had two each. Brake had a three-run homerun in the second inning while Richardson had a double in the win.
Swindle, Allen, Richardson and Caroline Clark all had one RBI each for the Lady Warhawks.
Brake’s homerun was her 10th for the season, which ties her for second in the nation. The national leader has 11 homeruns.
Brake also earned the pitching win for JDCC as she relieved starter Hadaway in the top of the fifth. Hadaway went the first 4 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits, five runs, three earned, walked two and struck out three.
Brake went 2 1/3 innings and allowed two hits, one unearned run, walked two and struck out one.
