Police remain on scene in East Brewton after midnight Tuesday, investigating the shooting death of a local man.

The victim, who was not identified by police, lived in a two-story structure on Mantel Street, located off U.S. Hwy. 29. Reports indicate police were called to the scene sometime after 9:30 p.m.

East Brewton Police Chief Kenny Brazile requested the assistance of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) in determining the circumstances around the shooting inside the home.

ALEA agents at the scene referred all questions to the agency’s public information officer; however, a law enforcement source stated the male victim was found with a single gunshot wound inside the home after he failed to report to work Tuesday evening.

The investigation is expected to last into the early morning hours. The Brewton Standard will update this story Wednesday as more information becomes available.
