WSN baseball goes 3-0 in Opp to finish in third place

Playing in the Opp Spring Break Tournament Monday and Tuesday, the W.S. Neal varsity baseball team went 3-0 to move their record to 10-8 this season.
The Eagles of East Brewton opened play Monday with an 8-4 win over Brantley.
On Tuesday, WSN defeated Kinston 14-7 and ended play with a 20-10 win over New Brockton.
WSN was one of three teams to go 3-0 in the tournament as Opp and T.R. Miller also went 3-0. Opp won the tournament by tiebreaker as they gave up six runs to TRM’s 14 and WSN’s 21.

Monday: WSN 8, Brantley 4
WSN ended their three-game losing streak Monday as they doubled up Brantley 8-4.
Colton Morris and Lane Chavers teamed up on the mound to pitched the Eagles to the win. Morris, who earned the win, and Chavers combined to go seven innings and allowed five hits, four runs, three earned, walked three, struck out 10 and hit three batters. Morris went six innings and struck out 10.
At the plate for the Eagles of East Brewton, Alex O’Keane had a triple while Derrick Barton and Chavers had a double each.
O’Keane and Barton had one hit each while Miles Powell, Chavers and Jacobey Hawthorne had two each. Barton and Hawthorne had two RBIs in the win while O’Keane, Powell and Chavers had one each.

Tuesday game one: WSN 14, Kinston 7
WSN made it two straight wins in their first game Tuesday as they doubled up Kinston 14-7.
With the game tied 7-all after five innings, WSN plated seven unanswered to get the win. The Eagles scored five in the sixth and two in the seventh inning.
Dalton Shell earned the win on the mound for WSN as he went five innings and allowed seven hits, seven runs, one earned, walked none, struck out four and hit three batters.
Matt Hutchins went the final two innings and allowed one hit, struck out two and hit one batter.
Dakota Graves led the Eagles at the plate as he went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
O’Keane went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Powell went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Barton added one RBI while Malcolm Hawthorne added one hit. Shell and Jacobey Hawthorne both had one hit in the win with Shell having two RBIs. Troy Lewis added one RBI in the win.

Tuesday game two: WSN 20, New Brockton 10
In game two Tuesday, WSN ended tournament play with a perfect 3-0 record as they defeated New Brockton 20-10.
With the game tied 6-6 after three innings, WSN outscored New Brockton 14-4 over the last three innings to get the 10-run win.
WSN pounded out 15 hits in the win including a perfect 4-for-4 day from Barton. Barton had four RBIs and a double in the win. Dalton Shell went 2-for-5 and also had four RBIs.
Miles Powell was a perfect 3-for-3 for the Eagles as he finished with two RBIs. Chavers, Cooper, Graves, Malcolm Hawthorne, Jacobey Hawthorne and Hutchins all had one hit each.
Chavers, Cooper, Jacobey Hawthorne and Hutchins had one RBI each. Graves and Powell had two each in the win.
On the mound, WSN used four pitchers in Cooper, Shell, Jacobey Hawthorne and Hutchins with Cooper getting the win. The quartet of pitchers combined to allow nine hits, 10 runs, five earned, walked seven, struck out four and hit two batters.
After the fourth inning, New Brockton failed to get a hit.
