Super to be named next week

It will likely be next Thursday before the Brewton City School Board names a new superintendent, said board chairman Stephanie Walker.
More than 40 people expressed an interest in the position that will become vacant June 30 with the retirement of current superintendent Lynn Smith. Smith will leave the system after 36 years of service.
Public interviews of the six finalists began Monday with Monty K. Aldrich, an Illinois superintendent, followed by Dr. Boyd English, Charles Henderson High School principal in Troy on Tuesday. Today, Dr. Carla Evers, director of instructional programs, Gulfport School District in Gulfport, Miss., will interview.
Each candidate will participate a meet-and-greet reception daily from 4:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. A 15-question interview session will follow. During the day, candidates will tour the system’s facilities, meet teachers, administrators and community leaders and visit local landmarks.
The following is a brief synopsis of canddiate bios:
• Monty K. Aldrich, superintendent, North Clay CUSD, Louisville, Ill.
Highest education: Master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University
Experience: Superintendent, principal, grants director, teacher and coach
• Dr. Boyd English, principal, Charles Henderson High School, Troy
Highest education: Doctorate, Georgia Southern University
Experience: Principal, dean of students, assistant principal, social studies teacher
• Dr. Carla Evers, director of instructional programs, Gulfport School District, Gulfport, Miss.
Highest education: Ph.D., University of Southern Mississippi
Experience: Director of instructional programs, principal, teacher
• Kyle S. Kallhoff, superintendent, Chickasaw City Board of Education, Mobile;
Highest education: Master’s degree, University of Alabama
Experience: Superintendent, technology trainer, assistant superintendent, testing and data specialist
• Wade A. Shipman, superintendent, Fayette County Board of Education, Fayette
Highest education: Master’s degrees, University of West Alabama and Mississippi State University
Experience: Superintendent, assistant principal, teacher, district technology coordinator
• Dr. Kenneth C. Varner, superintendent, Tallassee City Schools, Tallassee
Highest education: Doctorate, Alabama State University
Experience: Superintendent, principal, assistant principal, agri-science teacher
