It is said that all good things must come to an end at some point or another and that was the case Friday in Brewton for the T.R. Miller baseball team.
After going 19-2 in the regular season and winning the county tournament championship and their area championship, the No. 3-ranked Tigers could not get anything going against Cottage Hill in the first round of the AHSAA state baseball playoffs and were swept to see their season come to an end.
The Tigers lost game one to Cottage Hill 8-1 and suffered a 10-0 loss in five innings in game two. The losses finished TRM’s season with a 19-4 record.
With the two losses ending TRM’s season, the coaching career of TRM head coach Jim Hart also came to an end as Hart will retire at the end of the school year.
Hart has been coaching for 37 years with 23 years as head baseball coach for the Tigers after taking over for the late Donnie Rotch in 1993. Hart finished his career with 352 wins, and his wife Nancy was there to see just about every one of them.
The 64-year-old Evergreen High School graduate led T.R. Miller to a few state semifinals and one state runner-up in 1996. He’s coached at T.R. Miller from 1974-1984 and then from 1988 to present.
TRM had only five total hits in the two games and struck out a total 18 times in the two losses.

Game one: CH 8, TRM 1
In game one, Cottage Hill scored eight unanswered runs to defeat TRM 8-1 and take a 1-0 lead in the best of three series.
The game was tied 0-0 in the top of the fourth inning when a rain delay occurred.
From there, TRM led 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning before CH scored eight unanswered runs.
CH scored two runs in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth inning. All runs in the sixth inning were unearned.
TRM’s lone hit came in the bottom of the seventh inning. TRM made six errors in the loss.
The lone hit came from Tripp Floyd who went 1-for-3 in the loss.
Floyd got the start on the mound and took the loss as he went six innings and allowed nine hits, eight runs, one earned, walked four and struck out six.
Stokes Jennings went the final inning and struck out one batter.

Game two: CH 10, TRM 0 (5 innings)
In game two, Cottage Hill used a five-run second inning to propel them to a 10-0 win over the Tigers in five innings to eliminate TRM from the playoffs.
Cottage Hill held TRM scoreless while getting one run in the first, five in the second, one more in the third and three in the fourth. Of Cottage Hill’s 10 runs in game two, eight came with two outs. TRM made three errors in the loss.
At the plate, Jones Manning, Tim McDonald, Drew Williamson, and Stokes Jennings had one hit each.
On the mound, JoJo Booker pitched four innings and allowed seven hits, 10 runs, two earned, walked five and struck out six.
