Local police departments will be out in full force for the Memorial Day weekend, cracking down on impaired drivers and those performing traffic infractions.
The Brewton, East Brewton and Flomaton police departments, as well as the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama State Troopers, began the two-week “Click It or Ticket” campaign Mon., May 18. Officers, deputies and troopers will be on the roads until May 31.
During these times of the increased patrol, officers will be conducting checkpoints and heavy patrols. Officers will have zero tolerance on violations such as safety belts, child restraints, and DUI’s.
This program is geared towards reducing fatalities, injuries and crashes during the two-week period of Memorial Day.
Funding for the initiative comes from a state department of economic and community affairs grant.
