WSN’s Hoehn recaps spring training

W.S. Neal Eagle head coach Doug Hoehn said he thought the two-week spring training period for his Eagles went well this year.
“We put in some things we have not been doing before,” he said. “For only having two weeks, I think it went well. We have so many young kids who are going to get a lot of playing time for us. I think the spring training periods have improved every year I have been here. It seems like it has been getting better and better.”
Hoehn said he had 46 kids out this spring.
“We are happy with that,” he said. “I think for the two weeks, the entire offensive line is coming on. There are some new kids there, but they did well.”
Hoehn said Malcolm Hawthorne has seemed to be settled down more this year and is playing with more control.
“We are happy with his running of the ball and his defense,” he said. “I think Jacobey Hawthorne has done really well for us at quarterback. Friday night was his first game and he threw the ball well. We had a couple of incompletions, but he did what he needed to do.”
WSN had this past week off for final exams, but will get back to work in the coming days.
“We had final exams this week and that was our focus,” he said. “We will come back Monday and start summer workouts.”
