It’s nearly blueberry time, and vendors are still needed for the 35th annual Alabama Blueberry Festival.
This year’s festival will be held on Sat., June 20, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. and will feature a “new and improved” layout throughout Jennings Park. Shuttle transportation will also be provided free of charge by members of New Beginnings.
Judy Crane, executive director of the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, said the festival will be a day to remember with arts and crafts, cookbooks, blueberry bushes and crates of fresh blueberries, blueberry t-shirts, free children’s games and activities, live entertainment all day and an antique car show.
“This is a great family event because we have something for everyone,” Crane said. “We are so excited this year to open up our event to vendors of all kinds – not just those with handmade crafts.”
Crane said local businesses – including home-based businesses, are welcome to set up shop. Cost for a 12×12 space is $85 without electricity or $95 with. Deadline to register is June 1 or “until the spots fill up,” Crane said.
This year, Chamber members are excited to bring back the famous blueberry ice cream. The recipe, which was saved and purchased by Mobile eatery Cammie’s Old Dutch Creamery, will be available for sale.
“Everyone can remember how sweet that tasted, and it will be made with Brewton blueberries,” she said.
Those same blueberries will be available for purchase on site, as well, Crane said.
“When you’re ready to leave, don’t forget to get a cookbook.,” she said.
