Well, hello retirement – or at least that’s what Brewton fireman Capt. Robert Crenshaw Sr. is saying today after Friday’s retirement cookout.
Fellow fire department employees, city officials, friends and family gathered as Crenshaw was honored for the nearly 30 years he has spent serving Brewton residents.
“This is not an old man’s job,” he said jokingly of why he decided to retire. “This is a young man’s job. But I will say, I loved my job. I loved helping people, and I’m just honored that people came out.”
Fire Chief Jeffery Salter said Crenshaw was “the most dedicated fire fighter I’ve ever had. He never missed a fire and was always there whenever and wherever we needed him.”
Crenshaw said he plans to spend his time fishing, enjoying his grandson, Cameron, and spending time with his family.
“Really, a lot of fishing,” he said with a laugh. “When people read this, I’ll probably be out there fishing.”
