The Brewton Public Library summer reading program, it’s not just for kids anymore.
Director Lynn Likely said Monday the BPL will host a kickoff for its children’s summer program on Friday, but there are also scheduled summer events for teens and adults, alike.
“We want people to know that the library, it’s not just for small children,” Likely said. “We have something for everyone. If you’re a reader, we have best sellers. If you’re an audiobook person, we have those, too.
“Some people aren’t readers, and that’s OK,” she said. “We have a wide variety of DVD selections that includes popular TV shows and movies.”
Likely said the library also offers a computer lab for residents.
“But, this summer, we are working to expand our program to offer fun things for everyone,” she said.
On the children’s front, this year’s theme is “Every Hero Has a Story.”
“Who doesn’t love a superhero story?” Likely said. “And that’s why we are centering our program around them.”
Sessions will be held each Friday at 10 a.m. through July 30.
At this Friday’s kick-off, participants are asked to dress as their favorite superhero.
Refreshments will be served, and a book reading will be held.
The adult program will be held on Mondays beginning June 15 and continue until July 27 at 4:30 p.m. Programs will last approximately one hour and will feature a variety of events such as crafts, board games and even some line dancing, Likely said.
“We hope to finish the session with a bread and cheese event, which will be a great time for all who come,” she said.
Each participant over the sessions will be entered each week into a drawing for four gift baskets.
