Brewton 12U softball goes winless at state

Brewton’s 12U softball all-stars went 0-4 in their state tournament games in Brewton.
Brewton opened tournament play with an 8-7 loss to Covington County on Thursday.
On Friday, Brewton blew an 11-0 lead to lose to East Brewton 12-11. In Friday’s second game, Brewton lost to Alex City by a score of 12-1.
As the No. 4 seed in the single elimination part of the tournament Saturday, Brewton met up with No. 1 seed AC and lost 4-3 to be eliminated.
No stats were known from Friday’s loss to Alex City.

Thursday:
CC 8, Brewton 7

In the first game of pool play Thursday, Brewton lost to Covington County 8-7.
Brewton led CC 4-0 after one inning and 5-0 after the top of the second inning before seeing CC rally and take a 7-5 heading into the sixth inning.
In the top of the seventh inning, Brewton rallied with two runs to tie the game at 7-all only to see CC win the game in the bottom half of the inning.
At the plate for Brewton, Sara Scott had a double and two singles while Addi Smith had a two-run homerun in the first inning
Courtland Salter and Makayla Mitchell pitched in the loss with Mitchell being the pitcher of record.

Friday: EB 12,
Brewton 11

East Brewton rallied from an 11-0 deficit after three innings to stun Brewton 12-11 in the second game of the tournament on Friday.
Brewton led EB 2-0 after one inning, 7-0 after two innings and 11-0 after three innings before EB scored 11 runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to get the win by one.
For Brewton, Chloe Smith had two singles while Sara Scott had three singles. Courtland Salter had a single and a double while Sailor Smith had a single and a double.
Addi Smith, Makayla Mitchell, Kate Najor and Emma Claire Hayes all had a single each for Brewton.

Saturday:
AC 4, Brewton 3

Brewton gave No. 1 seed, and eventual state champion, Alex City all it could but took a 4-3 loss in the single elimination part of the tournament.
For Brewton at the plate, Chloe Smith had a hit and scored one run while Scott had one hit. Sailor Smith had two hits and two RBIs while Addi Smith had a triple and scored once.
Mackenzie Holmes added an RBI and Rebecca Ann Moore added a single and scored in the sixth inning for Brewton. Moore had a single and two RBI’s for Brewton in the sub-state round of games against Tri-County and had a single and one RBI against East Brewton. Moore’s stats were not reported in last week’s paper.
Salter took the pitching loss for Brewton.
