FCA going strong; ends Thursday

More than 75 kids from the Brewton area turned out for the start of the 10th annual Brewton-area Fellowship of Christian Athletes Kidscamp.
The camp, which meets at the T.R. Miller gym, will run through Thurs., July 16
Since 2006, more than 1,000 kids and huddle leaders have participated in FCA KidsCamp, which is designed to help give children who have completed first through sixth grade an opportunity for a Christian camp that balances athletic competition and character/integrity development with the message of Jesus Christ.
The theme for the 2015 camp is “Pursuit” and is based on Proverbs 8:17: “I love those who love me. And those who diligently seek me will find me.” Each day will focus on a way Christians can pursue characteristics of seeking God, such as ‘Pursue Peace’, ‘Pursue Unity’, ‘Pursue Integrity’, ‘Pursue Good’.
Brewton FBC youth pastor Randy Winton is the camp director.
“Ten years have flown by,” Winton. “When we first had a vision for this camp, the idea was for it to be an annual event that would draw kids from all over the Brewton area and be something they would look forward to. Apparently, that has happened.
Huddle leaders are assigned to the age groups during the week and serve as coaches to the kids. The main idea of the camp is building character and being an example. At the end of the week, each Huddle Group recognizes someone who has exhibited those characteristics taught by the FCA with an award for being its “Camper of the Week.”
The camp, which typically averages 80 kids, ends with the much-anticipated “Wild Tiger Relay”.
As well, the seventh Jim Hayes Award will be awarded to the sixth grader who has been an example of the spirit of FCA and all it stands for over his/her years coming to the Brewton FCA KidsCamp.
Past winners include Jones Manning (2009), Christopher Gehman (2010), Tyler Baxter (2011), Steely Ruzic (2012), Rider Jernigan (2013) and Clay Lang (2014).
Cost for the camp is $25, and all students need to bring a sack lunch each day. Water will be provided. For more information contact Randy Winton, First Baptist Church youth pastor, at 867-5769 (FBC Brewton) or 363-0429 (cell).
