TRM XC to host 5K

For the second straight year, the T.R. Miller Cross Country team will host a Friday Night Lights 5K. The event will be held at the TRM stadium on Fri., Aug. 14, at 8:30 p.m.
TRM cross country head coach Rob Atkinson said last year’s event went great and he is looking for this year to be even better.
“People were really satisfied with the way things went last year and this year it will be the same format,” Atkinson said. “A lot of it is social. People have a good time with it. We have a lot of walkers and people just get out there and have a good time with it. Our cross country runners will run in the event, but they will not run full tilt.”
Registration is $20 per person or $50 for a family of three or more.
“We would love for families to come out and run as a family,” Atkinson said. “We want to get more people involved in running. We will also have a tent set up at the stadium from about 5 to 8 p.m. You can register until about 30 minutes before the race starts. The first 150 people that come across the line will receive a TRM cross-country towel. There will also be Gatorade and cookies and baked goods at the finish line. We do not do awards because it is really late.”
Atkinson said the course will be a 3.1-mile course.
“It will go around the outside of the campus around both tracks,” he said. “It will be a little different than last year because of the all the construction, but it will still be a flat and fast course. We would like everyone to be here by 8 p.m. The race will start after the Miller Red and White game.”
All the TRM cross country runners have forms for all those interested to register.
Those interested in participating in the event can contact Atkinson at 251.363.3404.
