Work is complete is on the Jennings Park Boardwalk.
More than $50,000 was spent to rehab the area after rotten wood and unsafe conditions forced city officials to close the area.
City officials said Monday that Scotch & Gulf Lumber spent $15,500 to replace the boardwalk.
“That work was done five or six years ago,” Mayor Yank Lovelace said of the original project. “We had some problems with the boards that were rotten, and overtime, we found that there was warranty on commercial use of treated wood.
“But, Scotch & Gulf Lumber and Swift Supply have been gracious enough to work with the city and offered to replace all of the rotted wood,” he said.
Additionally, Brown Painting was retained to repaint the structure using paint specially-designed to prevent wood rot and moisture.
Cost for painting was $31,128. The city was also able to obtain a limited warranty on the wood used for the project, Lovelace said.
