Eleven people were arrested following a two-week extensive crackdown on drug use in East Brewton.
Chief Kenny Brazile with the East Brewton Police Department said each of the arrests stemmed from citizen reports of suspected drug activity.
“I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, we take each report of illegal drug use in our city very serious,” Brazile said. “Each of those complaints is investigated to the fullest extent.
“Citizens are our eyes and ears in the community,” he said. “Their diligence is most appreciated.”
Following a search warrant at a T&B Trailer Park home on Aug. 17, four people arrested after police located synthetic marijuana, digital scales, pipes and other assorted items of drug paraphernalia, Brazile said
Jailed were:
• Laurel Clayton 28, of Brewton, for possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and possession of drug paraphernalia;
• Denzel Malard, 22, for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia;
• Krysten Baggett, 22, for possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and possession of drug paraphernalia; and,
• John Haykins, 27, for distribution, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
When officers made a controlled drug buy later that day, another two were arrested and included:
• Randy Smith, 43, of Brewton, for distribution, possession, conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, resisting arrest and selling narcotics near a school; and,
• Clinton D. Tolbert, 36, for two counts of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime.
On Aug. 27, offers made a controlled buy and later executed a search warrant at a Vickery Street home. It was the second time officers “busted” those at the home, Brazile said, and officers found marijuana, digital scales, methamphetamine packaged for sale, used needles and prescription pills.
Arrested were 38-year-old Benjamin Miles Jackson and 35-year-old Nicholas Donald Frazier.
Jailed following an Aug. 8 traffic stop were 37-year-old Ashlion McCants and 28-year-old Gentell Green after officers allegedly found a bag of prepackaged marijuana and cocaine inside the vehicle.
