Neal Youth Football plays in jamboree; season starts Saturday at NWE

The Neal Youth Football senior’s team recently tied and won its first two games of the season in a jamboree this past Saturday.
In two quarters against NWE, Neal and NWE tied 7-7.
NWE had seven first downs in the game and 79 total yards.
NYF seniors had four first downs and 125 total yards.
Jordan Sims had 52 yards in the game while Dashawn Smith had 63.
Gavin Leggett added eight yards and Tyler Brooks had two yards.
Smith led with five tackles while Brooks added three. Sims and Leggett had two each while Dustin Godwin had 2 as well.
In the next two quarters against Baker, NYF won 13-0.
NYF had three first downs and a total of 114 yards.
Sims led with two carries and 66 yards and had one score in the win. Jymon Samuel added two carries and 34 yards while Smith had two carries and four yards.
Brooks finished with two carries for six yards and added one score while Leggett had two carries and four yards.
Christopher Long finished with two tackles along with Brooks to lead in the win.
Taylor Watson, Alex Alvarez, Dakota Rose, JD Maddox, Leggett, Godwin, Sims, Collin Stinson and Smith all had one tackle each.
No other stats from any other NYF teams were known as of press time.
NYF is scheduled to play at NWE Sat., Sept. 5.
Freshman will play at 9 a.m. followed by the sophomores at 10:15 a.m., juniors at 11:45 a.m. and the seniors at 1:15 p.m.
NYF will host Jay on Sat., Sept. 12. Games will be played at W.S. Neal Stadium in East Brewton.
The game with Jay will be a division game.
NYF will play at Flomaton on Sept. 19, at home against Uriah on Sept. 26, at home against Baker on Oct. 3, and at Brewton on Oct. 17.
NYF will have an open week the week of Oct. 10.
Games with Jay, Flomaton and Baker will be division games.
The games with Flomaton will be played at 4, 5:15, 6:45 and 8:15 p.m. The games with Baker will be played at 10 and 11:15 a.m., 12:45 and 2:15 p.m.
All other games will follow the freshman at 9 a.m. followed by the sophomores at 10:15 a.m., juniors at 11:45 a.m. and the seniors at 1:15 p.m. schedule.
On Oct. 24, the NYF cheerleaders will be in a cheer competition at Jay starting at 9 a.m.
