The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles volleyball team took two losses against Thomasville and Excel Thursday in Excel.

Game one: WSN 0, Thomasville 2

WSN went down against Thomasville losing in straight sets. In the first set, Thomasville took the win 25-18. Thomasville would then win the second set by the  same score, 25-18, to take the match.

WSN head coach Jason Blaney believes his team’s energy could have been better.

“We came out very sluggish versus Thomasville,” Blaney said. “We struggled in our receiving game, which took us completely out of our game, which is to be aggressive and attack.”

Leading WSN in the first game was Aleigh Lanier with 2 aces, 6 service points, and 1 kill.

Game two: WSN 0, Excel 2

WSN fell short against Excel, losing a close first set, 23-25, and 20-25 in the second set.

Despite the results of the second game, Coach Blaney said he liked the way his team came out.

“We came out much stronger and relaxed,” Blaney said. “We have to continue to work on not giving up points and receiving serves better – which we will continue to work on at practice.”

Leading WSN in game two was Karissa Johnson with 2 aces, 4 service points, 6 kills; Dinah Samuel with 1 ace, 2 service points, 3 kills; Madison Winchester with 2 service points and 11 set assists, and Marishia Fraser with 3 aces and 6 service points.

Next week WSN (1-3) will travel to #6 ranked Class 1A Pleasant Home on Tuesday. Games start at 4 pm.
