Game preview: WSN at East Gadsden

The WSN Blue Eagles (2-0) will travel this Friday to face the East Gadsden Jaguars (0-2). This will be the first matchup between the two programs. WSN head coach Doug Hoehn says his team’s approach will just be like every other game.

“We have to play hard,” he said. “We can’t afford to put the ball on the ground. We can’t afford to get behind the chains. We avoid those two things we give ourselves a chance. If we don’t, we make it tougher on ourselves.”

East Gadsden is 0-2 on the road. Friday’s game will be their first home game. Coach Hoehn knows the East Gadsden sideline has the advantage with size but its something his team is no stranger to.  “In the player’s number game we’re behind,” Hoehn said. “They have more guys, so keeping players fresh will be in their favor. We have a lot of kids that play both ways, so our kids are going to have to gut it out.”

Coach Hoehn believes discipline on the defensive side can counter East Gadsden’s athleticism. “They are a large school,” Hoehn said. “In Alabama they’d be a 5A or 6A school. They have a very good tailback. They’re quarterback runs well. Athleticism is not a problem for them. We’re going to have to do a better job in our pursuit lanes and taking better angles at the ball to be successful.”

Kick off at East Gadsden is at 7p.m.
