Game preview: TRM at Cottage Hill

The T.R. Miller Tigers (2-1) will travel to Mobile to face regional rival Cottage Hill (1-2) this Friday. TRM has had great success against Cottage Hill with a record of 5-0, outscoring their opponent 251-57. Last season the Tigers won comfortably, 55-14 at home. TRM head coach Jamie Riggs likes the way his team handled week two’s trip to Tallassee and would like to see that again this time around. “We had a really good trip,” Riggs said. “We were well organized. The kids did a nice job. We have to continue that and that comes in preparation.”

Cottage Hill comes into the game having loss to Geneva this past week, 48-14. This will be the Warriors first home game this season after going 1-2 on the road. Despite past success Riggs believes Cottage Hill is making steps as a program and looks for Friday’s matchup to be tougher than recent games between the two programs. “Cottage Hill is a little more athletic than their past recent teams,” said Riggs. “They haven’t played their starting quarterback and we anticipate him playing this week. He’s athletic, experienced and throws the ball well. So we anticipate them to throw the ball more than they have the first few games. We need to have some good preparation to get ready for that.”

The Tigers have struggled to score in the first half this season. Riggs believes time and experience will be the cure.  “I can’t really contribute it to one thing,” said Riggs. We’re a little inexperienced in some places and there are cases where teams do different things so adjustments have to be made. Sometimes when you’re inexperienced it takes longer than somebody who has played longer. We just need to be ready to play and that comes with preparation. We need to make some big plays earlier in the game and I hope that happens this week.

Game time at Cottage Hill is set at 7 p.m.
