Gregory “Greg” Eugene Haag, 42 of East Brewton, passed away Thurs., Aug. 13, 2015, in a Hattisburg, Miss., hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held on Mon., Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Russ McDonald officiating. Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
He was a native and long time resident of Brewton. He was of the Baptist faith, attended T.R. Miller High School and was a truck driver in the transportation industry.
He is survived by his mother, Gayle Kurtz of Brewton; his wife, Keri Burkett of Hattisburg; three sons, Levi Haag of Hattisburg and Billy Haag and Rusty Haag. both of Buda, Texas; a special young lady, Rebecca Kilpatrick of Uriah; two brothers, Keith Haag and Steven Broxson, both of Brewton.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allan Eugene Haag; and his grandparents, Nina and Herman Haag and Dee and Bill Kurtz.

George Junior Ball
Castleberry

George Junior Ball, 83, of County Road 23, Castleberry, passed away Mon., August 31, 2015, at a family member’s residence after a brief illness.
He was a native of the Roberts community and a long time resident of Castleberry. He was a member of the Elim Baptist Church, a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired security gaurd. He was an avid race fan, baseball fan and softball fan.
Funeral services  were held on Thurs., Sept. 3, at 2 p.m., at Rock Hill Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Donnie Lindsey and the Rev. Andy Peevy officiating. Interment followed in Rock Hill Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
He is survived by a son, David (Denise Taylor) Ball of Castleberry; three daughters, Renee Quigley and Michell Ann (Bryan) Allen, both of Brewton, and Sabrina Joy (Greg) Oliver of Castleberry; three sisters, Delois Clifton of Van Cleve, Miss., and Carolyn Overstreet and Annette Davison, both of Brewton; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Louise Ball; a brother, Buddy Ball, and a sister, Evelyn Thompson

Shirley Ann Pugh Parker, 62, of Ridge Road, passed away Fri., Sept. 11, 2015, in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services were held on Tues., Sept. 15, at 2 p.m., at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Interment followed in Fort Crawford Cemetery in East Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
She was a native and life long resident of Brewton. She attended Ridge Road Baptist Church, attended W.S. Neal School, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Dewayne Brooks of Atens, Ga. and Melvin (Erica) Moody of Rome, Ga.; a daughter, Christian (Justin) Massenburg of Brewton; her boyfriend, Mark Janes of Brewton; a sister, Jeanie Salter of Brewton; and six grandchildren, Wesley Brooks, Austin Moody, Kate Brooks, Aiden Moody, Brayden Massenburg and Brody Massenburg.

Gerald Woodrow Fore, 72, of Thompson Street in East Brewton, passed away on Sun., September 13, 2015, in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Visitation will be held today, Wed., Sept. 16, from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Greer officiating. Interment will be in Elim Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral home directing.
He was a native of Atmore and a long time resident of East Brewton. He was of the Christian faith, a 1960 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and a retired machinest from Brewton Iron Works with more than 25 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Harris Fore of East Brewton; two sons, Jerry (Benita) Fore of Clanton and Brandon Fore of Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Tracey (Derick) Taplin of New Orleans; three sisters, Ann (Donald) Boutwell of Jay, Fla., Carolyna (Al) Smith of Navarre, Fla., and Emily White of Brewton; six grandchildren, Hillary Dantzler, Kayla Fore, Amelia Fore, Holley Dantzler, Logan Fore and Anna Fore; and one great-grandchild, Amari Hilliard.

William Edward Polk

William Edward Polk, 80, of Stick City Road, Brewton, passed away Sun., Sept. 6, 2015 at his residence after a brief ilness.
Funeral services were held on Fri., Sept. 11, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitch Herring officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Jay, Fla., with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
He was a native and former resident of Jay and a long time resident of Brewton. He attended Pine Level Baptist Church and an avid fisherman.
He graduated from Jay High School and was retired from the wood yard at Container Corporation of America with more than 30 years of service.
He is survived by two daughters, Cyndi (Don) Norsworthy and Pat Haley, both of Brewton; four grandchildren, Dex Nathaniel Mote, Shawna Moore, Phillip Norsworthy and Tori Madden; and three great-grandchildren, Michael, John and Allie.

William Willis Thompson , 89, of Brewton, passed away on Tues., Sept. 8, 2015, at the William F. Green State Veterans Home.
Funeral services were held at Zion Hill Baptist Church on Sat. 12,, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Greg Thompson and Speaker Eddie Thompson officiating. Interment, with military honors, followed in Zion Hill Cemetery.
He was a lifelong resident of Escambia County, Ala. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with Company A, 340th Engineering Construction Battalion of the U.S. Army, and worked as an exterminator for a number of years. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Claude McCall American Legion Post No. 79.
He is survived by a son, James Estel (Dot) Dewberry of Brewton; a daughter, Linda Patricia (Bobby) Madaris of Gulf Shores; a brother, Marshall Ed (Pat) Thompson of Matthews, N.C.; three sisters, Esther Ruth Brannon of Brewton, Betty Jo Duncan of Marietta, Ga, and Patricia (Bill) Baker of Roswell, Ga.; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Eunia Vae Thompson.

Brother Wayne Farrish, 56, was born on Sept. 15, 1958 in Brewton, to the late John Lee Farrish Sr. and the late Josephine Broughton Farrish.
He died Wed., Sept. 9, 2015. Funeral services were held Sat., Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at Presley-Fluker Funeral Chapel with Sheppard Donald Ray Nearer Sr. officiating. Burial followed at Pollard Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Chapel directing.
Pallbearers were John Lee Farrish III, Jonathan Wade Farrish, Reginald Farrish, Rob A. Jones, Tristan Ewing and Douglas Sims.
He was a member of the graduating class of 1977 of W.S. Neal High School and was employed at T.R. Miller Lumber Mill Co. for 33 years. He attended St. John Baptist Church in the Springhill Community.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Jones in May of 1983. This union was blessed with two sons, Wayne Lawrence Farrish and Lonnie Emmanuel Farrish.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife Patricia; his sons, Wayne Lawrence Farrish and Lonnie Emmanuel Farrish; four brothers, John Lee (the late Kathy) Farrish Jr., George (Gwendolyn) Farrish, Ronnie (Linda) Farrish and Wad (Paula) Farrish; and one sister, Pamela Farrish (Gary) Plummer; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Irene Edwards

Tallahassee, Fla.

Irene Edwards Maylan, 80, of Tallahassee, Fla., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tues., Sept. 8, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Ga.
She was born October 23, 1934 in Pollard to Jewell Mills and Henry Owens Edwards.
Funeral services were held Sun., Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, in Tallahassee, with Dr. William Shiell officiating. Burial was held Mon., Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. at Union Cemetery in Brewton.
She graduated from T.R. Miller High School in Brewton and went on to complete her bachelor of arts at Judson College in Marion. She obtained her master’s degree in social work with a minor in organ from Florida State University in Tallahassee. She worked as a social worker in Escambia County, Ala., and in child welfare services in Alabama until she and her husband, Geoffrey, were blessed with their daughter, Christine.
She attended First Baptist Church of Tallahassee for 45 years where she sang in the Joy Choir and was active in Women on Mission including past director. She was also a member of the Woman’s Club of Tallahassee for 30 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Arthur Geoffrey Maylan.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Maylan Freeman, and her husband, Dale; two grandchildren, Kennedy Jewell and Cole, all of Savannah, Ga.; and three cousins, Ronald Forrest Mills of Panama City Beach, Fla.; Jamianne Mills Lipscomb of Trussville; and Lynn (Kenny) Crutchfield of Brewton.
Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Homes and Memorial Park were in charge of arrangements.

Albert S. “Buddy” Cooper Jr.,96, passed away on Thur,, Sept. 10, 2015, at Westminster Village in Spanish Fort,
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 19, at Westminster Village with Dr. Bob Stauffacher officiating.
He was born in Wilson, La., and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army.  He was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University.
During his working years, he was a research chemist for the Department of Agriculture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Albert S. Cooper Sr. and Anna Belle McQueen Cooper; his wife, Ruth Olene Strength Cooper; a sister, Sara Ellen Hewett; and two brothers, Grundy Cooper and Jerry Cooper.
He is survived by a goddaughter, Patsy Isaacson of Denver, Col.; three nephews, Mike Cooper of Haughton, La., Tim (Tina) Cooper of Stonewall, La., and Robert (Melanie) Laffitte of Bossier City, La.; a brother-in-law, Byron F. (Christine) Strength of Pineview; and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great nephews.
