Swain’s Sandwich Shop to open

Local residents will be thrilled to learn that Brewton’s newest restaurant, Swain’s Sandwich Shop, will open its doors on Oct. 24.

The restaurant has been in development since March.  Owners Cody and Alexia Swain said they can’t wait to open the doors but know that everything has to be right. The couple is in business with Cody’s mother, Marianne.

“The first impression is everything, so we want everything to be just right come grand opening,” Mrs. Swain said. “There were a lot of kinks we had to figure out from planning.”

The building, which is located in the downtown boardwalk, was once home to a hair salon before the Swain’s took over. Thanks, in part, to a $20,000 grant from the city’s downtown redevelopment board, the remodeling has been a process consisting of time and elbow grease that includes building a bar, kitchen, bathroom and redoing the floors, the couple said.

“Pretty much the construction is done,” Mr. Swain said. “We did most of all the remodeling ourselves. It’s been an overhaul. We pretty much had to build everything from scratch.”

Along with good food, the Swains said draft beer and wine will also be served. With television monitors, even a giant projector screen, spread throughout the building, the Swains said the place can be a great spot for sporting events.

“The television monitors gradually came into the plan for the place,” Mr. Swain said. “With the bar we thought it could be a good idea. People can watch football. We plan on showing a few UFC fights.”

The Swains said the sandwich shop will be open on weekdays serving breakfast and lunch from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. There is a developing schedule for Saturdays, and the restaurant will be closed on Sundays.

Cody Swain is a graduate of T.R. Miller, while Alexia Swain is a graduate of W.S. Neal. One thing they both feel is they want their sandwich shop to be a place anyone can feel welcomed.

“I don’t want people to feel they can’t come in here and eat,” Mr. Swain said. “We’re not just one school or the other. We’re going to have all kinds of stuff hanging up. We just want to have everybody to feel comfortable and enjoy themselves.”

For now the Swain’s say look out for the open sign.

“Once that open sign is up, feel free to come in,” Mr. Swain said.

Also the Swains plan to hold contest and giveaways online.

“Check out our Facebook page for details and contest opportunities,” said Mrs. Swain.
