The T.R. Miller volleyball team celebrated senior night Thursday by defeating Andalusia. The varsity team would win in straight sets.

Miller head volleyball coach Terri Lynne Peacock was proud the way her team played.

“Tonight was a good win for us,” Peacock said. “Everyone did their job, and did it well.”

In the first set, the Lady Tigers would get off to a quick start. The Tigers would extend its largest lead to 17-7. From that point Andalusia would make a comeback earning 11 of the next 13 points to trim the Tiger lead, 19-18. The Tigers would take the next three points to go up, 22-18. A final push by Andalusia would prove unsuccessful as Miller would close the set with a spike over the net by senior Amelia Peach.

The Lady Tigers got off to another quick start in the second. At one point, Miller would score five unanswered points, taking a comfortable lead 14-5. Miller senior Mykayla Harrison attacked the net spiking the ball past Andalusia players to make the score, 17-8. Andalusia was forced to call a timeout. The Lady Tigers would close out strong, scoring four unanswered points to win the set, 25-11.

The third set was all Miller. Everything seemed to be going well for the Tigers as the team started the set scoring 13 straight points for a 13-0 lead. After two scores by Andalusia, Miller would go on another tear extending its lead, 19-2. Miller would win the set, 25-3.

Peacock had high praises for her players after the team’s win.

“Amelia Peach, Mykayla Harrison and Allie Nelson all did a great job offensively,” Peacock said.  “Steely Ruzic and Caitlyn Smith helped run the offense with some nice sets. Mallori Floyd and Madison Douglas had great ball control and didn’t let many balls get past them. Grace Ruzic had 12 consecutive serves to get us started in game three. Taylor Austin was an important factor at the net tonight. We played well as a team and we hope to continue at this level of play through the rest of the season.”
