Century, Fla.

 

Shannon Odom Adair, 56, of Century, Fla., passed away on Mon., Oct. 19, 2015, in Pensacola, Fla.

Visitation was held on Thurs., Oct. 22, at Flomaton Funeral Home chapel from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in honor and memory of her.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Century, and she worked at the Sandwich Deli in Century for the past 10 years.

She was of the Christian faith and is preceded in death by her parents, Frank H. and Mary Ellen Campbell Odom, and brother, Frankie Devon Odom.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Adair of Century; daughter, Misty (Paul) LaSala of Canoe; son, Steven David (Mindy) Lashley of Century; stepsons, Brian Keith (Michelle) Adair of Frisco City and Kevin Patrick (Jessica) Adair of Uriah; daughter, Misti (Paul) LaSala of Canoe; brothers, David Odom of Byrneville, Fla., and Richard Odom of Century; sister, Robin Fawn Bonds of Pace, Fla.; and grandchildren, Ansley, Andrea, Aiden LaSala, Bekah Adair and Kallie Adair.

Mary Frances Steele

Brewton

 

Mary Frances Steele, 71, passed away Tues., Oct. 13, 2015, at the home of her sister in Magnolia, Texas.

Funeral services were  held on Sat., Oct.17, at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Brother Chip Barbus officiating. Interment followed in Sardis Cemetery in Wawbeek with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

She was born in Bluff Springs, Fla., and had been a life long resident of the Brewton area. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Steele; three brothers, Albert Gayno Creamer, William Edward Creamer and J. Hugh Creamer; and sister, Ester Mae Garrett.

She is survived by son, Johnny Beasley of Magnolia, Texas; four brothers, Raymond Creamer of Brewton, Jerry Creamer of Cypress, Texas, and J.W. Creamer and Donnie Creamer, both of Brewton; sister, Vonceil Weaver of Magnolia, Texas; and a number of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Doris Emmons Brown

McDavid, Fla.

 

Doris Emmons Brown, 74, of McDavid, Fla., passed away on Fri., Oct. 23, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were held at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel on Mon., Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. with Bro. Ed Brown and the Rev. Robby McCann officiating.

Interment followed in Crary Memorial Cemetery at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Bluff Springs, Fla., with Flomaton Funeral home directing.

She was born in Byrneville, Fla., to Joe and Olean Emmons on March 9, 1941. She married Winston Brown on Jan. 4, 1958, in Byrneville, and they resided in McDavid.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Tammy and two grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Winston Brown of McDavid; sons, Tony (Angie) Brown of Pace, Fla., Steve (Tami) Brown of Jay, Fla., and Mike (Lori) Brown of Flomaton; brothers, Joey (Sandra) Emmons of Salsbury, N.C., and Wayne (Linda) Emmons of Pensacola, Fla.; sisters, Betty (Troy) Brown of McDavid, and Pat Harrison of Jay; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Hank, Joe, Tyler, Hunter, Ben and Cole.

Dorothy Tolbert Matthews

Brewton

 

Dorothy Tolbert Matthews, 74, passed away on Oct. 15, 2015, at a Pensacola, Fla., hospital.

Funeral services were held Wed., Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion AME Church in Brewton with the Rev. Daniel Dozier officiating.

She was born July 15, 1941, in Castleberry to the late Nick Tolbert and Leola Gross Tolbert. To this union, one child was born.

She was educated in the Conecuh County School System and graduated with the class of 1960. She had been a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church before uniting with Mt. Zion AME Church where she served for 48 years.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Calvin Matthews; sons, Gary Joe (Loretha) Matthews Sr., Gregory Joseph (Gale) Matthews Sr., and Marcus Allen (a friend, Patsy) Matthews, all of Brewton; daughter, Hazel (Robert) Green; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy White Columbus of Sacramento, Calif., and Effie Logan of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Jeffery Tolbert of Pensacola; three aunts, Nettie Nolan of Brewton, and Lillie Ruth Brown and Mattie Johnson, both of Castleberry; uncle, James (Eloise) Gross of Castleberry; two sisters-in-law, Louise (Thomas) Miller and Sonia (Ronnie) Grace of Brewton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Barbara Howell Dickerson

Atmore

 

Barbara Howell Dickerson, 83, passed away on Sat., Oct. 24, 2015 in Mobile.

Funeral services were held Wed., Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Kelly Brown and the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Burial followed at Union Cemetery in Brewton, with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home of Atmore directing.

She was a native of Brewton and a resident of Atmore for the past 58 years. She was retired from FHA with 30 years of service in Escambia County, Fla., and was an avid Auburn and Atlanta Braves fan. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore. She is preceded in death by her Parents, W.C. “Red” and Lucille Howell and Brother, W.C. “Billy” Howell, Jr.

She is survived by one daughter, Dawn (Ted) malone of Atmore; two grandchildren, Molly Malone (Jonathan “Red”) Cowles of Atlanta, Ga., and Ryan (Joy) Malone of Atmore; great-grandchild, Camden Cowles; nephew, Donald Howell of Mountain Brook; niece, Jennifer Howell Gibney of Mobile;and special family member, Joan Malone of Bay Minette.

Pallbearers were Gerald Malone, Ryan Malone, Donald Howell, Jonathan Cowles, Earl Weaver and Tab Jernigan.

 

Mary Alice Jernigan Darby

Pensacola, Fla.

 

Mary Alice Darby, 80, of Pensacola, Fla. went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Mon., Oct. 26, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thurs., Oct. 29, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Jim Sherrard and Oastor Les Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Jordan Cemetery with Faith Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. prior to services.

Pallbearers will be Jason Darby, Jason Fuqua, Chad Fuqua, Josh Fuqua, Julius Darby, Richard Houston and Chris Evett.

She was born in Brewton on May 22, 1935 to the late Mason and Rhone Jernigan. She graduated from W.S. Neal High School in 1953, where she met J.C. Darby and they became high school sweethearts. They were married for 58 years before his passing in 2011. She was a faithful member of Community of Christ Church and an avid fishing and camping enthusiast. Most of all she will be remembered for her devotion to her family.

She is survived by her son, Robert M. (Debbie) Darby of Hinesville, Ga.; daughter Robin Darby (Greg) Kimmel of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Melissa Darby (Richard) Houston of Nashville, Tenn., Jason Darby of Hinesville, Ga., Kristyn Kimmel of Freeport, Fla., and Darbi Kimmel (Christopher) Evett of Fort Walton Beach; one great-granddaughter, Harper Houston: three sisters, Aline (Nelson) Wasserman, Joan (Jack) White and Evelyn (Wayne) Fuqua.

 

David Randolph ‘Randy’ Simmons

Brewton

 

David Randolph “Randy” Simmons, 68, of Pineview Drive, Brewton, passed away Mon., Oct. 26, 2015 at his residence after an extended illness.

Visitation will be held Fri., Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church, in East Brewton.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Fri., Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Watts officiating. Interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Atmore, and a life long resident of Brewton. He was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church, a 1968 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and retired from Alabama Ductile in 2009 with 27 years of service. He loved to hunt and fish but above all he loved the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley Cooley Simmons of Brewton; a daughter, Shirley (Walter) Sanders of Brewton; three brothers, Aquilla (Martha) Simmons and Derrel (Ann) Simmons, both of East Brewton, and Paul (Wanda) Simmons of Clarksville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Michaela Sanders, Alyssa Sanders and Kristofer Sanders; and a brother-in-law, Charles E. Cooley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Kathryn Hartman Sanders; two brothers, Floyd Simmons, Sr. and Ray Peavy, Sr.; a sister, Doris Scott; and a nephew, Floyd Simmons, Jr.
