Lady Tigers competing for state champ title

Play today will determine whether or not the T.R. Miller Lady Tiger volleyball team will earn a shot to become 3A state champs.

For the last week, the team, led by head coach Terri Lynn Peacock, has fought at the “Super 8” tournament in Birmingham.

The Lady Tigers will face Madison Academy in the quarterfinals at 9:30 a.m. at the Birmingham CrossPlex on court 6.

The eight competing teams are Geraldine, Bayside Academy, Cottage Hill Christian, West Morgan, Lexington, Indian Springs, T.R. Miller and Madison Academy. The championship game will be on Thursday.

Peacock said she is proud of how the team played in the tournament and is looking forward to play for a state title.

“We definitely reached our season goal in making it to state,” Peacock. “We are excited for the opportunity to compete in Birmingham for the 3A state championship title.

“We know there will be some  tough games along the way, but we are ready for the challenge.”

In the games leading up to today’s spot, highlights include:

TRM 3, Hale

County 0

TRM won in three sets; 25-12, 25-9 and  25-21

Leading TRM was Steely Ruzic with  10 kills and 12 assists; Mallori Floyd with 9 Kills; and

Allie Nelson and Madison Douglas, both with 8 aces.

 

TRM 1, Bayside 2

TRM would lose the match to the 3A number one ranked Bayside; 13-25, 11-25 and 25-8.

Bayside has won seven straight against 3A opponents.

Mallori Floyd led the team in kills.

 

TRM 2, Cottage Hill 1

TRM  wins, 14-25, 25-21 and 25-20

Allie Nelson led the team with kills. Taylor Austin led with blocks.
