David Randolph ‘Randy’ Simmons, age 68, of Pineview Drive in Brewton passed away Mon., Oct. 26, 2015, at his residence after an extended illness.

Visitation was held Fri., Oct. 30, 2015 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church East Brewton, Ala. Funeral services were held Fri., Oct. 30, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Cedar Hill Baptist East Brewton, Ala. with the Rev. Michael Watts officiating.

Interment followed in Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

He was a native of Atmore, Ala. and a life long resident of Brewton. He was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church. He graduated from W.S. Neal High School in 1968 and retired from Alabama Ductile in 2009 after 27 years of service.

He loved to hunt and fish, but above all, he loved the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley Cooley Simmons of Brewton; daughter, Shirley (Walter) Sanders of Brewton; three brothers, Aquilla (Martha) Sanders of East Brewton, Derrel (Ann) Simmons of East Brewton and Paul (Wanda) Peavy of Clarksville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Michaela Sanders, Alysa Sanders and Kristofer Sanders; and brother-in-law, Charles E. Cooley.

He was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Kathryn Hartman Simmons; two brothers, Floyd Simmons Sr. and Ray Peavy, Sr.; sister, Doris Scott; and nephew Floyd Simmons, Jr.

Douglas ‘Doug’ Coleman Bagwell 

Brewton

 

Douglas Coleman Bagwell, 78, of Foshee Road, Brewton, passed away Wed., Oct. 28, 2015, at his residence after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sat., Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bishop Leon Stewart and the Rev. Billy Gordon officiating. Interment followed in Pineview Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County, Ala. He was a graduate of Flomaton High School, a member of the Pineview Pentecostal Holiness Church and served his country in the Marine corps.

He retired after 42 years of employment from Jefferson Smurfit Corporation at the Brewton Paper Mill. Previously he was active in the Flomaton Pee Wee football league, quarterback club, band boosters, PTA, $-H clubs, Cattleman’s Association, Brewton Saddle Club and Atmore Saddle Club.

He was a dedicated member of the Pineview Foshee VFD. He was an avid trailrider, earning the nickname “Trail Boss”. He and his mule Stormy were part of the cast in the live performance of “To Kill a Mockingbird” production. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by four sons, Jeff (Michelle) Bagwell of Pineapple, Steve (Tammie) Bagwell of Pineview, Randy (Rebecca) Bagwell of Flomaton, and James Bagwell of Brewton; one daughter, Cindy (Barry) McLamb of Pensacola, Fla.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

George Billy Drummond

Brewton

 

George Billy Drummond, 85, of Sam’s Lane, Brewton, passed away Tues., Oct. 27, 2015 in a Pensacola hospital after a brief illlness.

Funeral services were held Mon., Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck Day officiating. Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Norfolk, Va., and a former resident of Houston, Texas, before moving to Brewton in 1999.  He was of the Baptist faith and a former owner/operator of a fence company.

He is survived by two sons, Mark (Karen) Drummond of Houston and Meredith Drummond of New Braunsfel, Texas; a daughter, Deidre (Kevin) Russell of Richmond, Texas; a brother, Stuart Drummond of Virginia Beach, Va.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Carolyn Drummond, two brothers, Meredith Drummond and Proscher Drummond and his wife, Barbara Drummond.

Mary Ellen Robinson, 52, of County Road 27 in Castleberry, passed away Sat., Oct. 31, 2015 at her residence after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tues., Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home Inc., with Rev. Stan Reedy Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Cedar Creek Baptist Church cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Brewton, and a long time resident of Castleberry. She was of the Baptist faith and an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

She is survived by her mother, Grace Odell Richerson Robinson of Castleberry; three brothers; Norman (Alene) Robinson Steve (Helen) Robinson and Rickey Robinson, all of Castleberry; five sisters, Irene (Ken) Driskell of Wilmer, Jeanette Duda and Linda (Michael) McDonald, both  of Mobile, Sue (Ralph) McDonald of Daphne, and Judy (Stanley) Smelley of Castleberry; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members

She was preceded in death by her father, Otis Robinson and a brother, James Robinson.

Pallbearers were Chris Jones, Tim Robinson, Jeremy Smelley, Jeff Robinson, Tom Mullins, Keith Robinson and David Webster.

Willard Theodore Creamer, 74. of Byrneville, Fla. passed away on Sat., Oct. 31, 2015 at his home.

Visitation will be held on Wed., Nov. 4, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thurs., Nov. 5, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. with Rev. Mitch Herring officiating.

Interment will follow in Poplar Dell Cemetery, Byrneville, Fla. with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Will Stuckey, Cody Nall, Richard Nall, Colby Graham, A.J. Graham and Stephen Hawsey.

He was a native and lifelong member of the Byrneville community where during his working years he worked for the Escambia County Sheriffs Department as a guard. He was a member of Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Gladys Margaret Creamer and step-son, Raymond O. Mills, Jr.

He is survived by his son, Ryan Creamer of Mortan’s Gap, Ken.; daughters, Cindy (Larry) Stuckey of Byrneville, and Lindy Hawsey and Mary Ann Mills, bpth of Atmore; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ruby King Lewis

Ruby King Lewis, 89, passed away on Tues., Oct. 27, 2015 in Pensacola, Fla.

Funeral services were held Sat., Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. at the Bay Springs Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Brandon Stophel officiating. Burial followed at the Bay Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Frankie Nicholson, Kevin Nicholson, Jason Nicholson, Peter Nicholson, Richard Lewis and Christopher Brown. Honorary Pallbearers were Jeffrey Fox, Michael Fox and Brandon Lewis.

She was a native of Molino, Fla., a former resident of Bay Minette, and resided in Pensacola, for the past four months. She attended the Horse Neck Community Holiness Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Lewis, Sr.; son, Rodger Dale Lewis; one infant daughter; one infant son;  three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by one son, Frankie Lee (Ann) Lewis, Jr. of Molino; two daughters, Elizabeth Lewis (Ronnie) Faulk of Walnut Hill, Fla., and Sara N. (Eddie) Figureid of Pensacola; brother, Paul David King of Pensacola; three sisters, Mary Blair of Century, Fla., Rosa Mobley of Ensley, Fla., and Sara Jane Stewart of Cantonment, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Lettie Jane Ray Childress,79, passed away on Wed., Oct. 28, 2015 in Pensacola, Fla.

Funeral services were held Fri., Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Bender officiating.

Pallbearers were Blake Young, Josh Northrop, Terry Milstead, Randy Miller, Ricky Miller, James Conway, James Lyle and Chase Gordon.

Burial followed at the Canoe Freewill Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Canoe, and a resident of Robinsonville, since 1980.

She was a member of the Canoe Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Johnny Robert Childress; her beloved son, Robert Allen Childress; three grandchildren, parents, Otis & Jessie Ray and four brothers, Sam Ray, Milton Ray, Johnny Frank Ray and Arthur Lee Ray.

Survivors include her daughter, Sondra Childress of Robinsonville; her daughter-in-law, Dawn Childress Northrop of Andalusia; her special caregiver, like a daughter, Diana (Jonathan) Conway of Robinsonville; two brothers, Willis Matthew (Voncille) Ray of Canoe, and Marvin Ray of Atmore; one sister, Mary Gene Conway of Atmore; one grandchild, Beth Childress of Andalusia, and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Willie Albert Monroe

Brewton

 

Willie Albert Monroe, 65, was born May 14, 1950 to Alice Annie R. Watkins and Clifton Monroe in Brewton, and died Oct. 20, 2015.

Funeral services were held Fri. Oct 30, at 11 a.m. at Presley-Fluker Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Lee officiating. Burial followed at Piney Grove Church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.

He attended school at Booker T. Washington School in Brewton, was employed as a mechanic with the city of Brewton for 35 years and loved riding motorcycles and horses.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Willie E. Monroe of Brewton; his children, Chasity and Adrian, both of Brewton, Willie, Michael, Patrick and Robert, all of Wilmington, Del., and Tammy of New Jersey; 14 grandchildren; four sisters, Ethel (Charles) Likely of Pollard, Dorothy (John) German and Barbara Monroe, both of Brewton, and Mary Lee of Georgiana; a brother, Robert (Shelia) Monroe of East Orange, N.J.; two sisters-in-law, Pinkie Monroe of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mattie Monroe of Raleigh, N.C.; an aunt, Pearlie Farrish of Brewton; two uncles, Herman Farrish and Elbert Chambers, both of Brewton, and a host of other family and friends. Lamar McKissack, Sr.

Pensacola, Fla.

 

Grady Lamar McKissack Sr., 86, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Sat., Oct. 31, 2015.

Visitation was held Wed., Nov. 4, from 1 p.m to 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Avon Fowler officiating. Interment followed in Bradley Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Phenix City, and a long time resident of Bradley, Fla.
and Pensacola. He was of the Christian faith and had attended Bradley Assembly of God Church.

He was a graduate of W.S. Neal High School and a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired assistant fire chief at NAS Pensacola, and had been a member of gospel singing groups; includng The McKissack’s and The Workman Quartet.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes Halford McKissack of Pensacola; two sons, Grady Lamar (Stella) McKissack, Jr. of St. Louis, Mo. and Bart (Jodi) McKissack of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Bobby McKissack of Bradley and Billy McKissack of Pensacola; sister, Jane (J.W.) Fowler of Roberts; and three grandchildren.
