Construction on the T.R. Miller baseball field has hit a minor speed bump, but school board president Stephanie Walker said it shouldn’t impact play on the field this spring.

“The board inspected the field on Nov. 20, and we were unhappy with the quality the way the sod was placed on the field,” Walker said. “It was very unlevel, and there were holes.”

Walker said contractor Fred Chambliss with Amity Construction Company Inc. has been working diligently over the Thanksgiving break to correct the problem.

Construction on the baseball field is part of Phase No. 2 of the construction project on the T.R. Miller campus. The goal deadline has been set for Dec. 31.

“We consulted an expert and we were assured that we have enough time to rectify the situation,” Walker said. “We’ll go out on the field again this week to take a look.

“If we have to go another direction with a contractor we will do that immediately to get the job done,” she said.
