Lady Tigers on hot streak, boys fall short versus Opp

Tuesday night the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers cruised to a win over Opp, 50-19.

Through three quarters Miller outscored Opp 48-12. Opp failed to score double digits in any quarter.

Leading the Lady Tigers was Emonea Curry with 16 points, 4 assists and two rebounds; Kyla Bell with eight points and seven rebounds; and Janaszia Nettles and Aleria Smith with seven points each.

The team is now 12-3.

For the boys, TRM trailed 37-43 with less than two minutes to go in the fourth. Miller’s Chardian Johnson connected on a three pointer with 1:06 left on the clock to bring his team within three. On the next play Opp would turnover the ball on the inbound. The Tigers took advantage scoring at the basket to pull closer, 43-42.

Opp’s Devontae Williams would add a score to increase the lead back to three. Ty’Keenan White added free throws for Opp to make the score 47-42. Miller’s Hayden Atkinson would answer with clutch free throws, keeping the Tigers close 47-44. After an Opp free throw, Miller’s Michael Smith was able to make a layup to make the score 48-46 with 7.2 seconds left to play.

With the score 49-46 and five seconds on the clock, TRM would have the opportunity to tie the game.

Miller would turn the ball over after failing to inbound the ball within five seconds. White would knock down two free throws to seal the game for Opp.

Leading the Tigers was Chardian Johnson with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Leading Opp in scoring was Ty’Keenan White with 19 points, Devontae Williams with 17 points and Orlando Lacey with 12 points.

TRM is 6-5 for the season.
