Winter has arrived and so has an estimated dollar figure on damages from recent flooding and severe rains.

Escambia County Emergency Management Agency Director David Adams said rising waters and heavy rains caused an estimated $600,000 in damages throughout the county.

“I have submitted an initial damage assessment to the Alabama Emergency Management Agency,” Adams said. “ This information was compiled by the County Engineering Department and the municipalities, which estimated damages for all categories, at slightly over $570,000.”

Adams said the figure could change if additional damage is and actual cost figures to repair the damage are acquired.

Residents can also expect another big flocculation in temperatures as the week progresses. As of now, gone are the spring-like temps, but not the sunshine, said Spinks Megginson of RedZone Weather.

“Sunshine is expected today, but rain is expected to make its return on Thursday,” Megginson said of the up to 1.25 inches forecasted for the area. “But, thankfully, that rain event won’t likely cause significant flooding issues or make matters dire for local creek and stream water levels.”

By Friday, temperatures will rise back up to the 70s. On Saturday, the high is forecasted at 72 degrees with a 90 percent chance of rain.
