Arson arrest made in Oak Street fire

A Brewton teen is being charged with arson after a fire destroyed an Oak Street home last Tuesday.

Stephen Holmes, spokesman for the state fire marshal’s office, confirmed 18-year-old Christopher D. Paul is charged with second-degree arson following the blaze. The home, which in owned by Leo Edwards of Lithonia, Ga., was vacant at the time, Holmes said.

No further details in the case were released as the fire remains under investigation.

Paul was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center and later released on a $30,000 bond.

“We’d also like to remind residents that nine lives have been in lost already in 2016 to fires,” Holmes said. “So, be careful of home heating, fireplaces, candles and the usual wintertime fire hazards and practice fire prevention.”
