Wild Game Supper set for Feb. 13

The First Baptist Church of Brewton will host its 25th Annual Wild Game Supper on Sat., Feb. 13. A meal will be served at 5 p.m. followed by the program at 6 p.m. Door prizes will be awarded to winners.

The guest speaker will be Bro. John Finklea.

Finklea served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Brewton for 25 years. He has spoken all over the Southeast from Florida to Virginia. He retired in 2000.

He holds the distinction of serving the longest tenure of any pastor in the history of First Baptist.

“Several months ago Bro. Fitts asked me since it was the 25th anniversary if I’d come and speak,” Finklea said. “I told him I would. I’m looking forward to speaking, sharing and fellowshipping with everyone.”

Many prizes are giving at the supper, including fishing tackle, hunting gear, caps and shirts that are provided by local merchants.

“The merchants have done a great job giving door prizes,” Finklea said. “I think that’s one thing guys come for are the door prizes.”

Twenty-five years ago Finklea started the Wild Game Supper and is really appreciative of its popularity.

“We’ve had folks from Bobby Richardson to Shaun Alexander to Travis Friedman come in and speak,” Finklea said.

“There are lots and lots of people to thank for the success of the supper. It wouldn’t be where it is without the efforts of many.”

Finklea said the supper is a way to bring people together.

“There are many sides of church people can enjoy. Church is a place that cares for everybody and serves a purpose of meeting their needs.”

Tickets can be purchased for $5 at the First Baptist office located at 324 Belleville Ave. in Brewton.
