JDCC softball starts off rocky versus Central Alabama

The Jefferson Davis softball team started its season off Saturday in a doubleheader against Central Alabama Community College.

The Lady Warhawks dropped the first game 13-2 and the second game 6-2.

In game one JDCC found themselves in a hole early, surrendering nine runs in the first and second inning. Central Alabama added four more runs in the fourth. JDCC also got on the board in the fourth when center fielder Rachel Reeves connected on a double. JDCC had four errors in the game.

On the mound Hannah Brake went two innings and gave up four hits for five earned runs. Kayla Lovett went three innings and gave up eights for no runs.

At the plate JDCC had five hits total. Reeves went 3-3 with two RBIs; Jordan Swindle went 1-3 with a single; and Brake went 1-3 with a double.

In game two, Central Alabama scored two runs in the first and added another in the second. JDCC scored in the third after an RBI double by Hannah Brake. JDCC scored again in the seventh on an RBI double by Grace Kilcrease. Central Alabama added two more runs in the seventh to get the win.

Kayla Lovett went the distance on the mound surrendering 14 hits and six earned runs.

At the plate Lovett, Alicia Richardson, Kilcrease and Brooke Howell each had two hits. Rachel Reeves and Brake each had a hit.

JDCC will next play Feb. 12 at home against Pensacola State College in a double header with game one starting at 1 p.m. and game two at 3 p.m.
