10 arrested for meth, cocaine

The local drug trade took a big hit this weekend thanks to the efforts of local law enforcement.

The Brewton Police Department Thursday arrested four alleged drug dealers and two suspected users Thursday, while the Castleberry Police Department jailed another five – including one Brewton man – on a host of drug charges Saturday.

Sgt. Josh Stanley with the BPD said the city’s latest arrests stemmed from a series of undercover buys and traffic stops.

The following were arrested for distribution and possession of a methamphetamine:

• Emmett Weaver, 32;

• Stacey Weaver, 24;

• Lorico Stevens, 39,; and,

• Jenna Moody, 29, three counts of distribution and possession, as well as an unrelated theft of property charge.

In separate cases, Dawn Johnson, 41, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, while Larry Cheatham Jr., 19, is facing charges of unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance (Spice).

Castleberry Chief Tracy Hawsey said Monday he credited traffic stops for the weekend arrests, which included that of 50-year-old Randy Parker and Brittany Kimball, 28, both of Brewton.

“More than 65 percent of the drug arrests we make are outsiders coming through Conecuh County,” Hawsey said. “And as a result of the day’s arrests, we recovered a number of controlled substances such as cocaine and meth and several hundred prescription pills, as well as a numerous handguns and rifles.”

Parker and Christopher Haveard, 37, of Jay, Fla., were charged with possession of methamphetamine, Tramadol and Alprazolam.

Kimball was charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Also arrested were Marrius Cunningham, 30, of Castleberry and Alvin Cunningham, 50, of Montgomery, for possession of crack cocaine and methamphetamine.
