Batten down the hatches, Brewton’s in for another batch of bumpy weather.

The National Weather Service is reporting there is a significant risk of severe weather beginning Tuesday afternoon and continuing through Wednesday morning, Escambia County EMA director David Adams said.

“This includes all of Escambia County,” Adams said. “Confidence is high with this forecast. Threats include numerous severe storms, some possibly strong and long tracked tornadoes, wind gusts 70 miles per hour or high and quarter golf-ball sized hail.

Adams said NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center on Monday upgraded the risk of severe weather across parts of south Alabama to “moderate” – a category it doesn’t use all that often – saying that widespread severe weather was likely there starting on Tuesday afternoon.

The best chance for the worst weather will be across parts of south Alabama, according to the Storm Prediction Center, but strong to severe storms will be possible statewide.

As of the present, there are no changes to school dismissal times in Brewton; however, all after-school activities have been cancelled. The Brewton Standard will continue to monitor the weather situation and update as new details become available.
