Longtime T.R. Miller Principal Mary Bell announced her retirement Monday.

Bell, who has served 21 years with the Brewton City School system, will end her 34-year education career in May.

“It’s the right time for me to retire,” Bell said. “I have a mother who is not well, and I want to spend as much time with her as I can.”

In addition to finding a new principal, the hunt is also ongoing to find a new TRM band director. Damon Anderson, who cited family reasons, announced his resignation in January.

Bell said there has been a “good bit” of interest in the position.

“We received a good number of applications,” Bell said of the band director slot. “We’re in the process now of culling those and working to find the right fit for T.R. Miller.”
