County unemployment rate up slightly in February

Unemployment in Escambia County rose slightly in February.

Statistics released from the state department of labor show the county’s unemployment rate at 7.4 percent for February – up one-tenth of a percent from January.

Some 14,400 people reportedly employed throughout the county, while 1,068 claims for unemployment compensation were filed.

Counties with the lowest unemployment rates are: Shelby at 4.7 percent; Elmore at 5.4 percent, and Lee at 5.5 percent.
