UMS records 16 hits in 14-3 win over Neal in series opener

UMS-Wright racked up 16 hits to beat W.S. Neal 14-3 in the series opener Monday night.

In the first inning, Chauncey Callier doubled to left field to score the first run for the Bulldogs. Callier later scored on a double by Sam Plash. A single by Conner Jednat scored Plash to give UMS a 3-0 lead.

Neal answered in the bottom of the second inning with a lead off single by Malcolm Hawthorne. Hawthorne’s single was followed up with a homerun by Jared Cooper to left field to make the score 3-2.

UMS added two runs in the third inning. In the fourth, Plash belted a 2-run homerun to left field. The Bulldogs led 9-2 at the end of four.

UMS added a run in the fifth inning. Complements of a double by Jednat and single by Dalton Goff, the Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth inning.

Neal added a run on a Bulldog error at the bottom of the inning to make the score 12-3. UMS added two more runs in the seventh.

Plash was 2-for-5 with a double, homerun and 3 RBIs. Callier was 3-for-5 with two doubles and 3 RBIs. Jednat was 4-for-5 with two doubles and 3 RBIs. Dalton Goff had two hits.

Jared Cooper was 2-for-3 at the plate for Neal with a homerun and 2 RBIs.

Jednat picked up the win on the mound, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Dalton Shell suffered the loss, allowing nine runs, six earned, on nine hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

Neal will travel to UMS-Wright tomorrow, April 12, for a double-header beginning at 4 p.m. If Neal can split, it will have home field advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.
