Christine Elizabeth Smith Skipper, 80, of Old Castleberry Road in Brewton, passed away Wed., April 6, 2016, in a Monroeville nursing facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, April 8, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Gam Graves, the Rev. Johnny Cardwell and the Rev. Andy Peevy officiating.

Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native and long time resident of Brewton. She was of the Holiness faith and a retired telephone operator from the Monroeville Telephone Company with 30 plus years of service. She enjoyed cake decorating, crocheting, clogging and bowling.

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Barbara) Skipper of Excel, Wesley (Judi) Skipper and Barry (Ginger) Skipper, both of Brewton; two sisters, Dorothy Portwood of East Brewton and Barbara Cardwell of Dixonville; four grandchildren, Wendy Rolfs, Shane Taylor, Taffi Teal and Jamie Peters; and seven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by parents, Carl Veston and Sophie Lizzie Hardin Smith; two sisters, Jennie Smith and Agnes Graves ; and three grandchildren, Danny Skipper, Chris Skipper and Craig Skipper.

Courtney Laine Pridgen

Brewton

 

Courtney Laine Pridgen, 17, of Coleman Lane in Brewton, passed away Wed., April 5, 2016, in a Mobile hospital.

Funeral services were held April 9, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Nicholas Jones officiating.

Interment followed in Sardis Cemetery in Flomaton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Pensacola and a life long resident of Brewton. She was a member of the Flomaton First Baptist Church. She attended Flomaton High School where she was a member of the Beta Club and on the annual/yearbook staff. She was very social. She loved her family, friends and all animals.

She is survived by her father, Jeremy (Daphne) Pridgen of Flomaton; mother, Tonya (Jr) Emmons of Brewton; brother, Cody Pridgen of Flomaton; two step-brothers, Colby Taylor and Deston Taylor, both of Flomaton; step-sister, Tiffany Sullivan of Milton, Fla.; maternal grandmother, Sandra Jackson of Brewton; maternal Pa Pa, Larry Spinks of Bratt, Fla.; aunt, Michelle (Justin) Baxter of Castleberry; uncle, Bubba (Rhonda) Pridgen of Flomaton; cousin, Ethan Cardwell of Castleberry; and paternal grandparents, Glendall and Gracie Pridgen of Flomaton.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Bobby Bodiford.

Peggy Bell Herrington McArthur

Brewton

 

Peggy Bell Herrington McArthur, 82, of Old Hwy. 31 in Brewton, passed away early Thursday morning, April 7, 2016, at her residence after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sun., April 10, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Yuhasz, the Rev. Rusty Burnham, the Rev. Jeff Edwards and Speaker Shelby Sellers officiating.

Interment followed in Catawba Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native and life long resident of Brewton. She was a member of the Catawba Springs Baptist Church. She attended Pollard McCall Junior High School, was a 1952 graduate of T.R. Miller High School and attended Larkins Business School.

She was retired from the Escambia County Commissioners Office with 25 plus years of service. She owned and was a caregiver at McArthur Elderly Care for 20 plus years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Edwina (Basil) Fillmore and Sharon Hoomes, both of Brewton; sister, Georgia Lanier of Brewton; six grandchildren, Leslie Ross, Laura Ross, Dennis (Erica) Ross, Wesley (Brittany Gibson) Fillmore, Jacob Fillmore and Whitney (Cody) Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Douglas, Hayeslee Hodge and Kylen Johnson; and son-in-law, Joe Ross.

She is preceded in death by husband, Edgar McArthur; daughter, Kay Ross; brothers, Frank Herrington and Jimbo Herrington; and grandson, Kyle Hoomes.

Chestine Wilson

East Brewton

 

Chestine Wilson, 82, of East Brewton, passed away Wed., April 6, 2016, in a Pensacola hospital.

Funeral services were held on Sat., April 9, 2016, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Watts officiating.

Interment followed in Brushy Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Danny Watson, Jimmy Eugene Wilson, Drew Hester, Caleb Watson, Josh Hooks and John Dailey

She was born in Range and had been a resident of Mobile prior to moving to East Brewton 25 years ago.  She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, J.C. Dailey, Elmo Dailey and William Dailey; a grandson, Isaac Ney; and a great-grandson, Isaac Grey McKeever.

She is survived by two sons, Kevin (Leanne) Wilson of Brewton, and Richard (Robbin) Wilson of Millry; three daughters, Kathryn (Dan) West of Lillian, Sherill Wilson of Deer Park, Texas, and Deborah Winkle of Checotah, Okla.; one brother, Douglas (Kay) Dailey of New Augusta, Miss.; four sisters, Ruby Faircloth Clara Hutchinson, both of Brewton, and Lillian Griggers and Alma Dailey both of East Brewton; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Bonnie Purvis Blackmon, 78, of Goldenrod Avenue in Florala, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 7, 2016, in Florala, after a brief illness.

Memorial services to be held at a later date with Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton in charge of arrangements.

She was a native of Bratt, Fla., and former resident of Escambia County. She was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her son, Charles Madison of Perdido.

Dorothy Anne Conover

Dorothy Anne Conover, 94, of Brewton, passed away Sat., April 9, 2016, in a Century health care facility.

Graveside funeral services were held on Mon., April 11, at 11 a.m. with Bro. J. Heath Wilson officiating and Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

She was born in Red Level, and had been a resident of Macon, Ga. prior to moving to Brewton.  She was a homemaker and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brewton.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas H. Conover; and a grandson, Thomas Mitchell Neese.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lillian and Mitchell Neese, both of Brewton; two sisters, Eugenia Hendrix of Thomasville, Ga., and Laura Andrews of Fairhope; and one granddaughter, Julie Anne Marsh of Brewton.

Carol Merle Hull, 80, passed away Sun., April 10, 2016, at her Loxley residence.

Visitation will be held at Stapleton Church of God today, April 13, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thur., April 14, at 10 a.m. at Stapleton Church of God with the Rev. J.P. Lambert and the Rev. J. Darlene Byrd officiating with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

Interment will follow in Silverhill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Owens, Matthew Owens, Stephen Hoover, Ronald Shiflett, Eddie Young and Michael Cryar.

She was born in High Springs, Fla., and had been a resident of Loxley since 1992, coming from Palatka, Fla.  She was a homemaker and attended Stapleton Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Weeks Cannon Hull.

She is survived by a son, Terry Owens of Loxley; a daughter, Darlene (Winfred) Byrd of Stapleton, Ala.; a brother, Charles Edward Hatch, Jr. of Ft. White, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kenneth Owens, Matthew Owens and Jessica Owens; and three great-grandchildren, Aultin Terrell, Justus Owens and Maggie Hoover.

Willie James Prime

Willie James Prime was born in Monroeville on Oct. 20, 1942, to the late Joe Prime and Fannie Mae Prime. He passed away Wed., April 6, 2016, after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Sat., April 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Presley-Fluker Funeral Direcors Chapel in Brewton with Pastor Agnes Green officiating.

Interment followed at the Atmore Cemetery in Atmore with Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors directing.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Ann, Josie Mae, Myrtle, Annie Mae and Ireter; and three brothers, Jerry, Hugh and Joe Prime Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Rosie (Jessie) Dexter of Castleberry and Darlene (Alvin) Jernigan of Eufaula; three brothers, Jackie Prime of Brewton, Steven (Rose) Prime of Dothan and Terrance (Martha) Prime of Brewton; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

 

Edith Louise Jackson

Edith Louise Jackson, 89, of Glen Road in Brewton, passed away Wed., April 6, 2016, in a Century nursing facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held, Sat., April 9, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael King officiating.

Interment followed in Union Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Covington County and a long time resident of Brewton. She was a member of the North Brewton Baptist Church and was the former owner of Jackson Plumbing and Building Supply for 50 years.

She is survived by her two sons, Jackie (Jody) Jackson and Jeff (Deborah) Jackson, both of Brewton; brother, Gerald Ray Dubose of Jay; sister, Eloise Golden of Dixonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

John H. Jordan, Jr., 90, passed away Mon., April 11, 2016, in Gulfport after a brief illness.

Graveside services will be held Thurs., April 14, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Baldwin Memorial Cemetery located at 20058 US Highway 90 in Robertsdale, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bettye Baswell Jordan; parents, John Hubert Jordan and Glennie Lowery Jordan; brother, William C. “Bill” Jordan; and sister, Duane Barrentine.

He is survived by his son, John A. Jordan of Picayune, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
