The T.R. Miller Lady Tiger softball team lost to area opponent Opp on Monday, 8-7, to finish second in area standings.

 

Opp 8, TRM 7

Down 3-1 in the second inning with two outs, Miller mustered out a rally. First Miller scored on a single by Madison Douglas. It was with Myra Reiss at the plate Miller took control of the game. With the count 1-0, Reiss belted a three-run homer to right field to give her team a 5-3 lead.

The lead was short-lived. At the top of the third, Opp scored five runs off a fielder’s choice, pass ball, error, single by Sara Ballard and single to right-field by Laura Short.

Miller responded in the fourth with a run, to make the score 8-6.

In the sixth Miller drew closer with another run to make the score 8-7.

Miller didn’t have another rally in its arsenal in the seventh inning. Opp pitcher Sarah Kidd was able to get the first Miller hitter to fly out before recording the final two outs with strikeouts for the Opp win.

Mallori Floyd was 3-for-4 with a triple and RBI for Miller. Reiss was 2-for-4 with a double, along with the homerun, and four RBIs. Taylor Austin had two hits and an RBI.

Short led Opp at the plate with two hits and two RBIs

Austin picked up the loss in the circle pitching the complete game. Austin allowed eight runs, two earned, on nine hits, two walks and five strikeouts.

Cassadi Adams picked up the win for Opp allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits and four strikeouts. Sarah Kidd came in relief over the final three innings, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

This past Friday the Lady Tigers competed in a tri-tournament with Pleasant Home and Trinity. Miller won game one against Pleasant Home 4-3 and loss game two to Trinity 2-5.

 

Pleasant Home 3, TRM 4

With Miller leading 2-1, Pleasant Home loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning. Batter Isabella Worley forced a walk to bring in a run to tie the game. Pleasant Home scored the go-ahead run on a pass ball.

Miller trailed until the seventh inning. With a Miller run on first base, Morgan Longmire singled. The Miller runner tried to advance to third but was thrown out. Longmire advanced to second base on the play.

In the next at bat Miller’s Mallori Floyd singled to left field. A misplay in the field by Pleasant Home allowed Longmire to score from second to tie the game 3-3.

In extra innings, Miller’s Taylor Austin held Pleasant Home scoreless by striking out the side.

In heroic fashion in the bottom of the inning, Austin doubled to left field to bring in the winning run for the Lady Tigers.

Floyd was 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI. Madison Douglas was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Austin was 1-for-4 with a double and RBI.

Tami Hilson was 3-for-4 with a double at the plate for the Eagles.

Katherine Walker suffered the loss, pitching 7.1 innings, allowing eight hits and striking out four batters.

Austin picked up the win from the circle, pitching eight innings, allowing four hits on four walks, with 12 strikeouts. The win was Austin’s tenth of the season.

 

Trinity 5, TRM 2

Miller got on the board in the first inning with a triple by Taylor Austin to score Myra Reiss who singled earlier in the inning.

Trinity loaded the bases in the second inning and scored on a walk, pass ball and fielder’s choice to take the lead 3-1.

Miller scored in the third inning when Reiss singled to centerfield. Mallori Floyd would round the bases and score from second base.

Trinity added two more runs in the fifth inning to extend its lead to 5-2.

Miller was unable to manufacture any runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Reiss was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Austin, Caitlyn Smith, Floyd and Anna Grace White each had a hit.

Austin suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs, on three hits and five walks. Reiss came in the game to pitch 3.2 innings of relief. Reiss gave up two hits.

Elizabeth Powell was the winning pitcher for Trinity, allowing six hits, no walks and striking out four batters.
