Mabel Moorer Evans

Huntsville

 

Mabel Moorer Evans, 90, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully in her home on Tues., April 19, 2016.

Graveside services and interment was at 2 p.m. at Damascus Cemetery in Brewton with the Rev. Jerry Passmore officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

A memorial service in Huntsville was held Mon., April 25, at 1 p.m. in the Whitesburg Baptist Church Chapel, 7300 Whitesburg Drive, with Dr. Jimmy Jackson and the Rev. Dick Thomassian officiating.

She was a native of Brooklyn in the Conecuh County farm community, and a long time resident of Pensacola. She lived the last 10 years in Huntsville.

After graduating from Auburn University, she was a home economist/food nutritional dietician, a middle school science teacher as a Florida educator in Pensacola, a certified disaster relief worker and an active member of Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville. She was previously a long time member of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Woodrow; sister Melba Sanders, brother Taylor Jefferson Moorer; and sister Myrtle Waters.

She is survived by her son, Brian (Paula) Wilson Evans, of Lacey’s Spring; daughter, Beverly (Kyle) Evans Ellison, of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Pamela, Janie, Brian Woodrow Evans and Amy and Kevin Ellison; sister-in-laws Clevie ‘Flossie’ Evans Martin and Carolyn Brown Moorer, and many nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to Whitesburg Baptist Church, designated for Vision and Victory Capital Fund.

Verla ‘Jane’ Rowell King

Jay, Fla.

 

Verla Jane Rowell King, 75, of Logan Lane Berrydale Community in Jay, passed away Sat., April 23, 2016, in a Century nursing facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tues., April 26, at 2 p.m. at the Berrydale Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Yuhasz officiating.

Interment followed in Berrydale Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrydale, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

She was a native and life long resident of the Berrydale Community in Jay. She was a member of the Berrydale Baptist Church, a graduate of Jay High School and a retired seamstress from Judy Bond with 25 plus years of service. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, outdoors and spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her three sons, Dewayne (Deb) King of East Brewton, and Dewitt (Sue) King and Darren King, both of Berrydale; two brothers, Frank Rowell of Jay and Roger Rowell of Berrydale; sister, Dinah Colonna of Florala; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold King; son, Scott King; and grandson, Justin King.

Ralph Eugene Ellis Sr.

Brewton

 

Ralph Eugene Ellis Sr., 75, of Evergreen Avenue in Brewton passed away Fri., April 22, 2016, in a Pensacola hospital after a brief illness.

Private family graveside services were held Mon., April 25, at 2 p.m. at Weaver Cemetery with Mark Ellis officiating.

Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Brewton and a former resident of Lake Martin before moving back to Brewton. He was a 1960 graduate of W.S. Neal High School. He owned Ellis Cabinets. He was a man who enjoyed life, people, motorcycles and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Weaver Ellis of Brewton; two sons, Ralph, Jr. “Rusty” (Wanda) Ellis and Shane (Donna) Ellis, both of Brewton; two brothers, James (Margaret) Ellis of Semmes, and Harvey (Sandy) Ellis of Brewton; sister, Anne Ellis of Milton; three granddaughters, Heather Edwards, Halie Ball and Lauren Wright; three grandsons, Michael Ellis, Denver Harris and Walker Harris; and six great –grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; James and Etta Lee Watson Ellis; and sister, Mary Lee Riddle.

Janice Marie Monk Mosley

Janice Marie Monk Mosley, 64, of Fish Hook Road in Brewton, passed away Fri., April 22, 2016, in a Pensacola hospital after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held tonight, April 27, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thurs., April 28, at 11 a.m. at the Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Interment with will follow in Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Castleberry, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native and life long resident of Brewton. She was a graduate of T.R. Miller High School and a graduate of Reid State Technical College where she received her LPN. She was a retired LPN and a homemaker.

She is survived by her significant other, Kevin Morris of Brewton; son, Jeff Ogletree of Brewton; daughter, Jenifer (Trey Harris) Roberson of Brewton; brother, Michael (Alicia) Salter of Lyeffion, Ala.; sister, Tina Reed of Bay Minette; and three grandchildren, Damian Schreiner, Danielle Schreiner and Jack Ogletree.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Mary Louise Smith Monk;  husband, John Mosley; and two brothers, Dennis Monk and Stevie Monk.

Edith Juanita Green

Edith Juanita Green, 88, of Castleberry, passed away on Tues., April 19, 2016, in a Century health care facility.

Funeral services were held on Sat., April 23 at 3 p.m. at North Brewton Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy White, Bro. Michael King and Bro. J. Heath Wilson officiating and Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

Interment followed in Buffington Cemetery.
Pallbearers included  Chris Godwin, Blake Godwin, Will Godwin, Cameron Godwin, Bryan Burt and Chris Davis.

She was born in Escambia County and had been a life long resident of Castleberry. She owned and operated Edith’s Beauty Shop for many years. She was of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Joe Ann (Johnny) Burt of Brewton, and Jerry (Bill) Godwin of Castleberry; brother, Luther David “Boots” Clark of Castleberry; two sisters, Elsie (Bill) Harper of Georgia, and Betty (Ron) Ballard of Bay Minette; four grandchildren, Candy Godwin, Chris Godwin, Bryan Burt and Brooke Davis; and nine great-grandchildren.

Donna Ree Miller

Donna Ree Miller, 63, passed away Saturday morning, April 23, 2016, in a Fairhope hospital after an extended illness.

Graveside funeral services were Mon., April 25, at 10 a.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Dr. Rob Burns officiating.

Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

She was a native of Pensacola and a former resident of Enterprise, and a long time resident of East Brewton.  She was a retired sales clerk and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by a cousin, Pam (Michael) Dupree of Bay Minette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron T. and Mildred Murphy Miller.

Johnnie Boyd Majors

Castleberry

 

Johnnie Boyd Majors, 68, of Rockhill Road in Wing, Ala., passed away Fri., April 22, 2016, in a Pensacola health care facility after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held Thursday morning, April 28, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Union Hill Church of Christ.

Funeral services are scheduled to follow at the Union Hill Church of Christ with minister Jared Knolls officiating and Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Interment will follow in the Union Hill Church of Christ cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Majors, Austin Majors, Trysten Majors, Tyler Bennett, Billy Bennett and Steve Bennett.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Jones and Nathan McGhee.

He was a native of Castleberry and a former resident of the McCall community before moving to Wing in 1997.  He was a retired heavy equipment operator with the civil service and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Marie Majors of Wing; two sons; Jimmy (Nikki) Majors of Petal, Miss., and John Majors of Wing; two daughters, Dianna (John) Snyder of Pensacola, and Jessie Maloy of Wing; three sisters, Shirley Bennett and Angel Lutrell, both of Brewton, and Tina Hiers of Perdido; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Burch and Agnes Lee Pritchett Majors; son, Joseph Charles “Joey” Majors; brother, Bobby Majors; and sister, Mary Glass.

June Bee Peak

June Bee Peak, 70, passed away Sun., April 24, 2016, in a Monroeville health care facility.

Funeral services will be held today, April 27, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Lomax Lunsford officiating and Cravers Funeral Home directing.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Loxley.
Pallbearers will be Fred Burch, Brian Burch, Michael Burch, Jesse Burch, Steven Dyess and Nathan Blair.

She had been a resident of Monroeville since 2007, coming from Atmore. She was a homemaker and was a member of Monroeville First Assembly of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindell Peak.

She is survived by a son, Linnie Peak of Maryville, Tenn.; daughter, Terri (William) Blackwell of Brewton; sister, Anna Rosetta Totty of Belleville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Amber Blackwell, Ashley Blackwell, April Lee Blackwell and Hope Peak; and three nieces, Charlotte Nelson, Patty Totty and Lisa Kaemmer.
