Nelson, Taylor among top performers

The T.R. Miller girls placed first and the boys placed second amid 13 teams in each respective division at the 3A sectionals in Montgomery this past weekend.

The girls had 23 top five finishes. Among the top performers was Allie Nelson and Makayla Harrison.

Nelson placed first in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 11:45.93; first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.06; and first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:24.04.

Nelson placed second in the 1,600 meter run.

Harrison placed first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.53; and high jump with a measure of 5-00.00. Harrison finished second place in the 100-meter dash and triple jump.

Other notable performances for the girls:

• Serena Smith, first place, discus, with a measure of 92-07.00

• Raven Bryant, second place in 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.19; and third place in long jump with a measure of 15-09.50

• Kelsi Lum, third place, 300-meter hurdle, with a measure of 52.14

• Aleria Smith, third place in javelin with a measure of 106-00.50; and third place in shot put with a measure of 30-01.75.

•4×400 relay team, third place, with a time of 4:38.01.

The boys had 14 top five finishes. Among the top performers was Ahmaud Taylor.

Taylor finished first place in the high jump with a measure of 6-02.00; and first place in the triple jump with a measure of 45-02.00. Taylor finished second place in the 110-meter hurdles.

Other notable performances for the boys:

•Austin Holmes, second place, 400-meter dash, with a time of 53.18

•Markail Mitchell, second place, javelin, with a measure of 159.01

•Jalen Walker, second place, long jump, with a measure of 20-06.25

•Henry Davison and Walker finished second and third respectively in the triple jump. Davison jumped a distance of 42-06.00; and Walker jumped a distance of 40-07.50

• 4×400 relay team, first place, with a time of 3:39.74, besting second place Montgomery Academy by .15 seconds.

TRM will next compete in state competition in Culman this Friday.
