WSN baseball celebrates season

Last week the 2016 W.S. Neal baseball team topped of its season with an intimate banquet held at the Hourglass downtown. Coaches, players and their families came together to celebrate a milestone season for head coach Coy Campbell, senior players and top performers on the field. Those awarded for top performance were (pictured right):

•Derrick Barton-highest batting average

•Jared Cooper-Ace Award (pitching)

•Dakota Graves-Coaches Award (captain)

•Malcolm Hawthorne-Defensive Award

•Lane Chavers and Sam Frazier- The Eagle Award for most improved.

Neal finished the season 12-10, making it to the first round of the playoffs before falling in a tough three-game battle to Andalusia.

Barton finished the season batting .397. Cooper had an earned run average of 3.67 on the mound with four wins. Hawthorne had a .967 fielding percentage with 28 putouts.

Campbell reached the 300-game win mark as a head coach for Northview and WSN on Feb. 26, with a win over Flomaton. He reached win No. 250 as WSN head coach on Feb. 29, with a win over Pensacola Christian.
