The countdown is on to the opening of the Smithsonian’s traveling six-week exhibit “Hometown Teams” arrival in Brewton.

Organizers said there are still a number of last minute needs to fill before the June 10 opening date.

“It’s a little wonder with our huge high school sports rivalry between T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal that we were chosen to be a host of the exhibit,” said Alexia Swain, a Brewton event committee volunteer. “We’re excited to be a part of such a legacy.”

Swain said the exhibit will not be housed in one central location – instead, local businesses will play host to portions of the exhibit. Sites include Swain’s Sandwich Shop, The Purple Paisley Boutique, The Dot Shop and Antigone’s, with the main exhibit in the former Everage’s building on the boardwalk.

There is a need for memorabilia such as pictures, trophy’s, jerseys and the like. Items will be returned. To organize a loan, call Swain at 251.236.2632 or Connie Baggett at 251.809.1777.

A “Rah Rah Reunion and Pep Rally” is set for June 2 from 4-6 p.m. at English Realty where contributions can be dropped off and stories shared, Swain said.

Those interested can also view the local Facebook page at “Hometown Teams-Brewton, Alabama.” Updates are posted periodically.
