Ronnie Dean Sanders

Battle Ground, Wash.

 

Ronne Dean Sanders, 65, of Battle Ground, passed away at Medical Center Hospital of Odessa, Texas, on May 5, 2016, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., on May 22, 1950. He was raised in Bay Springs, Miss. but spent the last 19 years residing in Battle Ground.

He worked in pipe build trades for more than 40 years. His last position was as pipeline inspector. He was also a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Maudie Estelle (Griffin) Sanders and a brother, Carl Sanders.

Those left to cherish his love and memory are his fiancée, Betty Raycraft of Battle Ground; children, Ronlad Sanders (Melanie) of Crestview, Fla., Walter Sanders (Shirley) of Brewton and Stevie Sanders (Toni) of Brewton; brothers, George Sanders (Kaye) and Owen Glen Sanders (Retha), both of Bay Springs, Miss., and Billy Sanders (Dana) of Sheridan, Texas; and five grandchildren, Michaela, Alyssa, Kristofer, Waylon and William of Brewton, along with many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

 Amber Bernice Phillips

East Brewton

 

Amber Bernice Phillips, 27, of Cook Street of East Brewton, passed away suddenly Tues., June 14, 2016, at a local hospital.

Funeral services were held Sat. June 18, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Greer officiating.

Interment followed in Sellersville Cemetery in Sellersville with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native and life long resident of Escambia County. She attended the W.S. Neal School system. She enjoyed drawing and painting, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her father, David (Sandy) Phillips; mother, Judy (Jeffery) Boles; son, Hayden Michael Phillips; daughter, Rebecca Jade Ramos, all of East Brewton; two brothers, Brandon Butts of Valley and Nate Hutcheson of East Brewton; sister, Monica Phillips of Evergreen; paternal grandfather, James Phillips of Brewton; paternal grandmother, Paula Phillips of Berrydale, Fla.; and maternal grandmother, Rojean Hammac of East Brewton.

Evelyn Anita Mitchell

Brewton

 

On Sat., June 11, 2016, God assigned an angel of mercy to whisper the good news to sister Evelyn Anita Mitchell that it was now time to come rest.

She made her transition from this place to paradise into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Funeral services were held Thurs., June 16, at 11 a.m. at Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church in Brewton with the Rev. Dr. Willie J. Blue, pastor, officiating.

Internment followed in Baptist Hill Cemetery in Brewton with Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors directing.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1950, in Brewton to the late D.C. and Anita Union. She was the second child of six children born from that union. She was affectionately know as “Aw” by her husband, nieces and nephews.

At an early age, she joined the Second St. Siloam Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life, she united with Apostolic Truth Tabernacle under the leadership of Pastor Jason Shufford, where she remained a faithful and loyal member until her health failed and God called her home.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Robert Mitchell on Nov. 4, 1983, where they combined and added to their wonderful children.

She was employed for many years with the Escambia County School System as a cook for W.S. Neal Elementary School. Her ministry was cooking and serving others. She was known for providing meals to family, friends and many loved ones. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, friend and church member. She will be greatly missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her brother, David Union; and parents, D.C. Union and Anita Williams Union.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 33 years, Robert Mitchell of Brewton; two daughters, Anita (Walter) Dick of Brown Summit, N.C., and Susan Brand of Danville, Va.; four sons, James Garrett of Greensboro, N.C., William Garrett of Columbia, S.C., Sylvester Mitchell IV of Augusta, Ga., and Rodney Brand of Brewton; two step-sons, Tommy Mitchell of Brewton and Robert Prime of Saint Cloud, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas (Ida) Union of Jersey City, N.J., and Danny Union of Brewton; two sisters, Ann Bowens and Glennie (Large) Culliver, both of Brewton; brothers-in-law, J.C. (Dorothy) Mitchell of Atmore and Lloyd Mitchell of Monroeville; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Charlie) Robertson, Mary Alice Jewel (Mickey) Ankum, Linda Faye (Jimmy) Marshall, Deborah (Abe) Bishop, and Geraldine Hollinger, all of Atmore, and Bertha Union of Brewton; one uncle, Daniel (Rose) Williams of Kansas City, Kan.; a special friend, Shirley Roach of Brewton; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

 

Vivian Louise Chavers Pate

Brewton

 

Vivian Louise Chavers Pate, 64, of Unicorn Lane Brewton, passed away Thurs., June 16, 2016, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was a native and life long resident of Brewton. She attended Pilgrims Chapel Church. She was a 1970 graduate of Conecuh County High School in Castleberry, a graduate of Jefferson Davis Community College and a homemaker.

Funeral services were held Sun., June 19, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred White officiating.

Interment will followed in Beulah Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerry Pate of Brewton; three sons, Joshua Pate of Phenix City, and Jeremy Pate and Jonah Pate, both of Brewton; Miss Jordan Salter of Brewton; two brothers, Joe Chavers and Johnny Mack Chavers, both of Brewton, seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; two aunts, Faye Chavers of Brewton and Dr. Delaine Salter of Atmore; and uncle, Willie Chavers of North Alabama.

Peggy Jean Mantel

East Brewton

 

Peggy Jean Mantel, 81, of East Brewton, passed away Tues., June 14, 2016, in a Brewton healthcare facility.

Graveside funeral services were held on Sat., June 18, at 1 p.m. at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Castleberry with the Rev. Thomas White officiating.

Active pallbearers were Jacob McKinley, Jay Matthews, Steve Blackmon, Rance Blackmon, Landon Blackmon and Cam Blackmon. Honorary pallbearers were J.W. McKinley and Tommy Cole.

She was born in Damascus and had been a life long resident of the the Brewton, East Brewton area.  She worked in the quality control department of the Ribbon Mill. She was a member of Ridge Road Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, George Gregory Mantel of San Jose, Calif.; daughter, Brigitte Darlene Hoomes of Brewton; two brothers, Jack Blackmon of Brewton, and James Blackmon of South Carolina; three sisters, Ann McKinley of Pensacola, Fla., Alma Yarbrough of Andalusia and Belle Nelson of Brewton; grandchildren, Heather Odom and Brad Cole, both of Brewton; great-grandchildren, Cole Odell Odom and Emma Kate Cole; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Carol Elaine Brantley Hobbs

Carol Elaine Brantley Hobbs, 71, of East Brewton, passed away on Sat., June 11, at her home.

A celebration of life service will be held at Cedar Hill Methodist Church on Sat., June 18, at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

She was born in Fairhope, and had been a resident of East Brewton most of her life having lived in Texas, Georgia and Memphis.  During her working years, she worked as a receiving clerk.

She was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Harold Brantley; and sister, Lillian Katherine Sawyer.

She is survived by her sons, Melbourn Paul Brackin and Spencer Edward Alexander Brackin , both of East Brewton; brother, Paul (Mary Anne) Brantley of East Brewton; sister, Mary Brantley Katter (Ferris Habbit) of St. Martinville, Calif.; and grandchildren, Regan Brackin, Scott Brackin and Hailey Brackin.

Marsha Cherie Crawley

Marsha Cherie Crawley, 42, of Jay Road in Brewton, passed away on Sun., June 12, 2016, in Brewton.

Funeral services were held Fri., June 17, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Brother Doug Greer and Brother J. Heath Wilson officiating.  Interment followed in Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery in Milton, Fla., with Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Kirkland, Hunter Kirkland, Jerry Kirkland Sr., James Kirkland Jr., Randy Holley and Barney Whitley.

She was a native of Milton and had been a member of the Brewton community for 10 years coming from the Pensacola, Chumuckla and Jay areas.

She worked as a machine operator for Cashell Beams and Flooring and was of the Baptist faith, attending Divine Temple. She was a loving mother to her sons and their girlfriends, and she had a heart of gold and would help anyone that was in need.  She was a fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide. She was a member of the Jay High School Class of 1992.

She is survived by her sons, Derreck (Keeley Howard) Bauldree of Crossville, Tenn., Justin (Kendall Blackman) Bauldree of Jay; and Austin (Summer Burkley) James of Brewton; and sister, Barbara Edwards of Pensacola.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Cherie Kirkland.

Lillie Lewis Dove, a resident of Brewton, passed away June 15, 2016.

Visitation will be held today, Wed., June 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Presley-Fluker Funeral Home in Brewton.

Funeral services will be held, June 23 at 11 a.m. at Baptist Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Andrews officiating.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. at Baptist Hill Baptist Church prior to services.

She is survived by her three sons, Amose L. Lewis Jr. of Montgomery, Stacey Lewis Dove (Dixie) Charlston, S.C., and Ronald Alvine Lewis of Peoria, Ariz.; one grandson; five great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Joe (Mary) of Ozark; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
