The Brewton Local Area Swim Team hosted the Gulf Coast Area Aquatic League Jr. Championships this past Saturday at the Brewton Area YMCA.

A total of 168 swimmers participated from 9 different teams.

“The Jr. Championship is a mid-season meet designed for our less-seasoned athletes who have not yet achieved certain times in the events they are dimming in,” said swim coach Angel Boyd. “This meet bolsters confidence and gives them a chance to win medals and compete on their level. ”

Boyd said once a swimmer achieves a “standard breaker” they have reached a major goal in their swimming season, meaning the swimmer is no longer eligible to swim in the meet.

The Tigershark’s who were in action this weekend were:

• Hundley Boyd

• Jocelyn Carpenter

• Anderson Heath

• Emerson Heath

• Addison Heath

• Callie Kent

• Matthew Kirkland

• Conner Lambeth

• Sara Scott

• Harrison Walton

• Collin Walton

• Kylee Walton

There were 46 total standard breakers at the meet this weekend, of those the Tigershark’s claimed eight.

The Tigersharks also brought home 10 first place medals, six second place medals, eight third place medals, five fourth place medals and many more ribbons past fourth.

“As their coach I couldn’t be more proud of our performance this past weekend,” Boyd said.

“Overall our Tigershark’s had a great showing, and we are excited about our upcoming relay meet June 30 in Fairhope. The entire team will be able to take part in this meet, as well as a couple of other duel meets we have to round out the summer season.”

The end of season championship meet will be held July 15-16 in Gulf Shores.
