Dawgs go extra innings, drop final games

The Brewton Dawgs were defeated by Covington County and Opp to close out its season. The Dawgs lost to Covington County, 11-8, in game one, and, 5-1, in game two versus Opp.

The game was back-and-forth, going eight innings before a winner was decided. Joshua Winton started the game and pitched five innings. Winton allowed six earned runs, eight hits and four walks with one strikeout.

Jacobey Hawthorne took over on the mound in the sixth inning, and allowed four runs–one earned–on seven hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

Russell Smith was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs at the plate. Malcolm Hawthorne was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.  Derrick Barton had two hits and scored two runs. O’Neil White had two hits.

Dalton Shell picked up the loss in a complete game effort for the Dawgs. Shell allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits, two walks and struck out three batters.

Chris Jones and Shell led the team with two hits each. Russell Smith had a hit and an RBI.
