For more than a generation, Lee Bain inspired others through his artwork and teaching at every education level. Now, it’s time to give back.

On July 30-31, much of his work and other pieces he and his late wife, Beth collected over a lifetime will go on sale at their home. Bain, now retired, recently moved to an assisted living facility in Baldwin County.

Proceeds from an estate sale set for this weekend at his Brewton home will go toward his care at the facility.

Bain started painting in 1958 in France, and often captured the spirit of places he traveled. Once back in the United States, he earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Alabama and worked in various businesses eventually earning his master’s degree in art education. Bain taught high school art for many years and at the college level. Through the years, his artwork was funded through state and federal grants and won numerous awards throughout the Southeast. He often served as a juror in art competitions in the region.

His art ranged from woodcuts to watercolors, serigraphs, etchings and other media. He often used his own handmade paper in his work and captured a wide range of styles from realistic scenes to abstract expression. Never one to shy away from experimentation, Bain’s approach was always fresh and new as he tried new techniques and media to express his art.

Bain remained active in the art world until recent years when his wife’s health declined. After her death his own medical needs were significant and family members helped find a facility where he can maintain some independence and receive quality care.

Now, the extensive collection he created will be on sale as well as some furniture and other household items.

The sale will be held at Bain’s home located at 1407 McMillan Avenue from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday and from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday.
